"Lav, come quick! Please!"

There was a hidden desperation in her voice that made it feel as though your world had stopped. Everything around you went quiet. You remembered that you could still hear Willow calling you from the front of the house, but it was as though she had been calling to you through a thick sheet of water. It was muted and distorted. "Willow..." you whispered, refusing to move because deep down you knew that the moment you stepped outside, your world would be turned upside down.

"Did she... is she dead?" You asked, struggling to put your thoughts into one coherent string. "Is she responsive, Will?"

"Just come outside, please."

It was at that moment you knew that the outcome was not going to be good.

Taking a deep breath, it took everything you could muster to swallow the sob that had climbed your throat, desperate to escape in a wail that would have echoed through the quiet streets of the Seam.

Stepping outside that day, you felt as though the ground had disappeared from beneath your feet.

"Will, do you know where Gran kept—" the words got caught in your throat, and your vision began to blur from unshed tears. It had been six months since that day. Six months, and you still felt like the ground had disappeared beneath your feet when you walked past the sad excuse for a mattress tossed into the corner of our little shed where she used to sleep. It had been six months, and you still felt like the nights were too quiet without the gentle rumble of her snores, a lullaby to send you off into a dreamless sleep.

Ma was not the same. But she wouldn't talk about it. It was her way of coping. She would say that she had to remain strong for us, for Pop's, who had been there that day, who had held onto Gran as she slipped from this life and into the next. She bottled things up so tightly that one day, that glass would shatter, and picking up the pieces might be next to impossible. But you would try; you would try to find every shard and glue it back together stronger than the first time.

When she was ready, you would be there for her and for Pop's and Willow-

Or so thats what you had thought.

Six months after the day the ground fell from beneath your feet, the new, fragile structure you had built to catch yourself shatters, and you are left falling into darkness.
