Yeah, Xaahira?
Fuck that bitch. Based on what mom's said about that family, I'm glad she's dead. They're all bad people, but does saying I'm glad my cousin is dead make me a bad person? Absolutely not. It just makes me a supporter of justice, that's all. Unlike those bastardly criminals, I'm a hero for the people.
...And in a true classic heroic trope, my current family sucks too.-
When my mom was much younger, she ran away from them and never looked back. She ran away with her twin sister. Often stating that our ancestors started a trend of being terrible people and it was expected everyone would contribute to the family business. Whatever that business was, it was terrible, and that's all my mom would tell me.
I was only a boy, so I didn't question her judgment. Mother knows best, and all.
Mom started out in four with some tiny shoebox of a place. One bedroom, a poor excuse for a bathroom, and a crappy fridge that basically warmed our food for us. When I was, like, three years old, Hadiqah married some man who also came to four searching for refuge. He came from Six, arriving to the district with his children after his wife had been assassinated in their home district. Opened up a clinic, which reeled enough money to provide my aggravatingly-confident step siblings a much nicer home than us. Guess she was swooned - either by him, or by the corners of her mind that are just as greedy as she describes her upbringing.
Just because she's left them doesn't mean she's completely disconnected from the Mahdavi families' antics. Even if she married her maiden name, Mahdavi, off, there's embers that wait to burn. She used her upbringing to get herself a job within the district. Works at some bank, which is like, super boring but she says it does enough.
Omar and Cloe treat me like I'm not good enough to be with 'em. Always sat on the opposite side of our rectangle-like table; they sit and watch me with judgment. They share glances, whenever I talk about a new game at the CrabCade. My stepfather had always kept extra money on the side to provide higher luxuries to those two. Career training, nice shirts, haircuts; the more nicer things, leaving me with whatever shirts Omar grew out of.
Mom would give me twenty dollars every two weeks, which gets a ton of rounds of Dance Marathon in down at the Crab. Place basically became my home for a little bit. It's where Makayla and I liked to hang out. She's my cousin, daughter to Hadiqah's sister, so really the only real taste I had of blood family.
Had, because she's not here. She's not dead - gosh no - just her family was more fucked up. Like, really fucked up. Ended up killing her dad and running away back to one. Kinda sucked, but she had to do what she had to do. It didn't really affect the Crab that much for me - it's still the one place that I go to if I'm not, like, at home or at school. They've got all kinds of arcade games and bad food, but it's a home. The thing that I don't get is why she went back to one, to be with such bad people. Why would she return to the place that's led to her displacement?-
- zada mahdavi's cousin, he knows her as Makayla Harrington
- spends most of his time at the crabcade, lil arcade on the strips next to the beach.
- likes comic books, heroes, ka-pow!!! loves to dance
- doesn't really know much about his family in one, just assumes they're all bad people (eve tho his family sucks too)
- his stepsiblings are typically at a career training facility, or working out - very sporty duo and he's kind of ostracized in that family dynamic. his siblings think they're too good for him.
