You found yourself at nightfall once again in the dimmed light dinning hall. Between the empty seats and echoes bouncing off the walls, you would spill your guts in hushed whispers never to be repeated to a single soul.
There was something special about the moments you shared here with Sunrise, something that you were too afraid the games would callously rip away from you just as you had found your comfort. It was the crutch you relied on to keep you going when you thought that you did not have it in you to continue. Tonight, there were not many words to be exchanged but still you found yourself across from him.
Here it was where you would lay out all your cards on the table, for only your friend to see.
Only for him to judge.

You rest in your bed, wrapped in the comfort of your dad’s flannel. The same one that you considered your shield during the reaping, a piece of clothing so worn out that it was the years of history woven into its fabric that kept you safe. It was the only reminder of your fathers love before he had run away for good.

You dream of home, where your brother would be cooking up a sorry excuse for a meal for when you would come home, and you would eat it for it was better than nothing. You longed for his questionable cooking and your mother’s alcoholic scent, the leaking ceiling dripping in perfect rhythm being a constant reminder that home is what you made it to be.

You start to twist and turn as a robotic voice forces its way into a place of peace where it does not belong. Your brain slowly loosens its grasp on your idyllic place of misery as you are tugged out of your slumber. Still half asleep with your eyes shut, you become slowly aware of your surroundings; the way your head lays perfectly in your pillow is almost too good to be true. Your hands are folded neatly over your chest as you feel your lungs inhale the air around you.

Your tongue catches a foul taste in your mouth and your eyes jolt open. You lay there in contemplation, trying to recall how you ended back in your bed. Last you remembered was playing a game of cards with Sunrise, but here you were with little to no memory. That is when it hit you, between the short-term amnesia and the lingering tang on your lips…it could have only been a toxin.
The countdown continues as you try to wrap your mind around what is going on but despite your best efforts, there is still a cloud of fog floating in your head. Your thoughts become unclear and incoherent, the signals firing through your nervous system do not reach your brain for it feels impossible for you to sit up right.
“In order to remind the Districts that our fragile peace can be broken at any moment, without warning, the 95th Hunger Games will begin... now. “
That is the moment when your body resumes function, and you shoot out of bed in disbelief. A surge of adrenaline rushes through your body as you whisper to yourself ”No no no no no no.”
This was all too soon, you had two more days, two more days of training, two more days for you to figure out how you were going to win. You were set back a whole 48 hours of vital time to study for a death match. You do not think as you run out of your room to try and find Irene, you scream out her name in frantic desperation. You need to find her, the two of you need to get out, try to find Arcadia and Tati whilst you still can. You needed to get as much of a head start as you possibly could. There was no time to be wasted.
"Hey besties! Head down to the Training Room, we're going to play some fun games for fabulous prizes!"
The speaker lets out Bourgeois perky voice once again and you stop dead in your tracks. There was not much else to be said, there was no where you could go now. Of course, they had a damn plan and there was no other option than to follow their orders.
A canon sounds.
”Irene…” you call out hesitantly again. ”I think we really need to get going, I don’t want either of us to be the next canon.”
