Sacrifice has too many questions. Naturally, she and Arcadia were the first down in the Training Center. However, what Gamemaker Bourgeois said as the last pair of tributes walked in only confused her even more as she and her fellow Gamemaker stood in their viewing box. The light above them flickering ever so slightly.
"Thanks for coming, everyone! This is so great. Today's fun game is a cage match. Civilized! Organized! So you can show everyone what you're made of when you're all on your own. Isn't that fun? We're gonna pair you up. Two strikes each. Then Geigy will judge who was better. You'll get great prizes just for playing! But the winner gets something totally cool."
"How can she believe that this is an actual game?" Sacrifice thinks to herself as she stares at the sickly, sweet smile that Gamemaker Decadence wears.
"If you're too boring to play, you can run. Now." The Gamemaker says all sweetness and joy from her voice is no longer there.
And to her surprise, Sacrifice sees about a fourth of the tributes run, Arcadia being one of them. She can't blame her District partner for running, though. Arcadia didn't do well in the sparring tournament, and to be honest, fighting is a considerable risk without traditional Wealth to fight for if this is the actual start of the Games, as the TV claimed. Sacrifice is scrambling her brain, trying to figure out what her next steps should be and what she should do to keep herself alive.
That's a simple enough question to answer, though, when she sees turrets appear out of the upper walls in the training center, starting to shoot at those running away.
"Holy shit, they're serious, this is the start of the actual Games." Sacrifice admits to herself, trying to gauge how deep those turrets can shoot. She decides to stay in the cage match, figuring she would instead take a few hits over being shot. Once it's clear who's staying and running, the light above the Gamemaker goes dark, and Bourgeois speaks again.
"Okay. Rude," she says dryly at first. "Now that that's out of the way, we can have some fun!"
"Fun? How is any of this fun?" Sacrifice thinks as she looks at the bracket projected on the glass. She finds herself pitted against Jackson Reeves in the fourth round. Okay, so she has time to try to remember him.
She finds a corner where she has some privacy, having to wave her training uniform before the system gets the hint that she isn't trying to run, only changing out of her pajamas. She didn't have time to change when they were first woken up; fighting in a silk sleeveless shirt and shorts is probably not the best way to go. Though she wishes she had underwear.
When Sacrifice returns, she ignores the rounds before her, trying to focus on her opponent, Jackson. She remembers that he's from Five, but they never actually interacted with each other, so she doesn't know anything about him. He scored an 8 in his Private Training Session, though, and Sacrifice was a little worried about her prospects with his build. She reminds herself, though, that she won the original sparring tournament, and she felt the pain of what it was like to be slashed and hit. If she should survive, she can survive this fight as well.
The first three rounds go by fast, and now it's time for Sacrifice to step into the ring. She can hear her heart beating in her ears as there is no armor or fake weapons that feel too real because this is the real deal. Blood has been and will continue to be spilled. Sacrifice is wondering if there is an Arena that they will be transported to or if the Gamemaker is somehow turning the Training Center into the Arena. Hell, the guns have already been installed; who knows when. Why wouldn't they install other "exciting new toys," as Gamemaker Decadence would most likely call them, into the Arena?
Sacrifice takes a deep breath as Jackson follows into the ring shortly after her. She's wondering if she should say something, if anything would be appropriate. Should Sacrifice apologize for attacking him? She didn't want to get shot at, so she would stay. Should she try to be intimidating, to get into his head? If they're only exchanging two throws each, playing the long game doesn't seem prudent, so Sacrifice falls back into old habits that should be considered polite in any situation.
"Hello, Jackson. I wish our first meeting were under different circumstances."
