Two rounds done…Two tributes beaten…

You breathed heavily as you came out of the ring once again placing your hands on top of your head as you tried to calm your heart rate down, but the blood was still pumping at a rapid paste. Your body still in fight mode, trying to maintain the adrenaline high until the next the round.

”Antigone Jay versus Jimmy Garner”

Fuck.

You had hoped to avoid the big name tributes this tournament, you did not want to be the one that left a mark on a Garner or an Emberstatt. Thankfully Emerson had fled refusing to fight. Smart. However you were still left with Flynn’s relatives and one of them was going to be your next opponent. It shouldn’t matter what their last name was, in the end you were not going to hand over a victory just because you felt sorry for their older cousin. It was not his life on the line, it was yours and anyone who would judge you for doing what it took to preserve your existence…well they haven’t walked in your shoes.

The next weapon you were handed was a knife, you looked at it for a second and was unable to recognize the tired blue eyes staring back at you. The girl in the reflection looked like she needed a shot of adrenaline, but you felt as if you had already taken three. You twirl your wrist around as if to warm up with a slight cracking sound coming from your joints as you face your next opponent. You and the red head from district six did not exactly get off to the best start. In fact, you didn’t have much love for Jimmy at all.

Did not mean you were all too excited about trying to slit his throat open.

One last deep breath before you kick things off, get the first attack in and catch him off guard. Do not let whatever bitch-ass bullshit that would come out of his mouth get to your head, that is what he got…a tongue as sharp as the knife in your hand but his previous fights had shown that he was all talk.

”For the record, I am not all too thrilled about this….but you do kind of have a stabable face.”

Oh, I remember her. She was the one that’s bad at stitching shit. And we have knives now too? Damn, this is going to be an easy one. They must like pairing up bigger names with each other. First I had the Hopes and now a Jay. It seems they wanted us to just get mad at each other, or something. We are the show's stars, of course. Who cares about a boring nobody from District 7?

Next up, knives. I know. I said it already. But they are just having a blast giving us random ass weapons. I wonder how much time had passed by now. The normal clock up there had disappeared, but I figure it’s at least been an hour right? There’s no sun to tell time. Not that I know how to tell time from the sun. But it’s kind of depressing to be stuck in a building for the entirety of the Games.

I still feel an ache from the rude awakening. By now, my body has woke up, but I just gotta focus. Breathe, Jimmy. As the tournament gets higher up we’re going to get dangerously closer to more threatening weapons. I think I'm fine outside of this bubbled welt on my leg. ”For the record, I am not all too thrilled about this….but you do kind of have a stabable face.” The girl from nine states, before throwing herself at my face. I flip my knife up in front of my face. The blade catches hers, keeping it from making contact. ”So much for stabable, right?” I snipe back. She’s getting real bold for a bitch that can’t sew or use a knife.

Like, what are you good at? ”Maybe keep the energy away from the trash talk. You don’t seem that good at fulfilling a promise.” And if these last fights are a telling of the rest of the tributes, damn they bad. ”Add that onto the list of things you suck at. I’m keeping track, are you?” Probably not. She must be used to failure.

Knife in hand, I twist and bend it toward the girl from nine.

Jimmy Garner probably would never know how often you had been called a waste of space, a horrible daughter, useless, a know it all, an arrogant bitch and so many other things. If you could listen to your own mother call you vile names as you tried to help her then what should the words of a stupid fucking fourteen-year-old no good nepo baby meant to you.

They should mean absolutely nothing, but they don’t. You could always excuse your mom’s outburst because she was not herself, it was the mania talking. She was to far gone in her own high of delusion to listen to any common sense, her word was the word of God and if you spoke against her belief of the moment then you were the equivalent to the anti-christ. At least that is how it felt when she would push you away when all you wanted to do was make sure she was okay.

You wanted to let Jimmy’s words go right past you, you wanted to be the bigger person. The one that did not need to sink to such low levels but a strangers words meant more than the ones of your loved ones. They would always support you, see you for who you truly were….Jimmy saw you for a split second and passed a judgement he would not let go. That made your blood boil and your eyes filled with rage. When he charges at you with his knife, you let the two blades meet, stopping him from being able to carve out a chunk from your body. He already wounded your pride, no need to let him physically harm you as well.

”Speak for yourself, dickhead. You are not exactly doing so good for yourself either. Maybe instead of keeping track of what I can or cannot do, you should worry about your lack of talent. Ain’t seem like there is much you can do except bitch and moan.” you bark at him ready to strike back, this time with a little more force. A bruised ego was more than enough to add a little more fuel to the fire.

She barks back with some speech about I’m not doing good, and the only pieces of her speech that I really listened to was the end of it. ”Ain’t seem like there is much you can do except bitch and moan.” And, well, she’s not wrong. But at least I’m worth the bitch and moan. She finishes and then swipes at the air, and I purse my lips at her after the big, bold speech and the big, fat miss of a swing she gave. People are so cute when they’re both upset and bad at what they’re doing. I could never relate. Sure, I’m bad at it, but why the fuck would I get mad over girls like Antigone?

”Aw, thanks, pookie.” My voice makes up my hardly adolescent body by speaking down to the girl. ”Glad you recognize what I’m good at.” I already know that I’m a skilled bitcher. What else was I supposed to spend my un-parented fury on? ”You have quite the big bark yourself, though, you seem pretty good at that!” Good job, Antigone, you can make at least yourself proud. Because I sure as hell wouldn’t be.

I glance over to Nessa, who had finished her round and moved onto the knife round, which we were on. Would they still make us fight if we moved on? I can’t imagine they would. We could just stand there and disobey. But what would they do outside of that? For all I know, that laser-beam fuckin thing could come in and obliterate us. But I’d take that over stabbing my cousin this early in the Games. I know it’s realistically impossible to kill Nessa and live happily with it. If I lived at the end of this, Flynn would fuckin’ hate me. Not that I cared much about him anyway - we weren’t the closest pair, but I’d rather not anger that twink.

Anyway, back to Antigone. For her name being so close to antagonize, you’d expect her to be a bit better at scaring people. ”Though, it’s been a pleasure, Antigone. Let’s just get this over with, yeah?” She was boring to talk shit with, anyway. If she was better at the physical component of talking shit, maybe it’d be a different story. "It's not personal. Just business." Which would be right, she is in the need of a face lift after all. But this isn't mom-and-dad business, this is life-or-death business.
