You look out over the edge of the rooftop barriers, the newly installed forcefield occasionally shimmering the night sky. It could not be far from sunrise now and you thought you could spot the first rays peeking out in the distance behind the tall skyscrapers that made up the Capitol’s center.
Word about the games taking place in the training center must have spread quickly, neighbors waking each other up to inform one another about the start of the games. A small crowd had already gathered in front of the building, each of them looking out for a tribute to make a sighting. You did not want to stick around too close to the edge, popularity was Arcadia’s thing, you would let her deal with the fanatics if it ever came down to it.
The garden was yours. The plants gave you a sense of home, something you knew and something you could use. For the first time, it was a little bit of familiarity in the capitol even if the gardens were nothing like the ones you had at home. You slowly wandered through the plants taking in their different scents and admiring their colors. When you hear the elevator ring in the distance you quickly duck down to hide yourself from whoever it was exiting. You were in no shape to fight anyone if it came down to it.
Fortunately, a familiar face steps out and there was a little moment of relief. The faux sense of peace returned again, however not in its fullest sense.
”Marik!” you shout in a whispered voice, trying not to cause a scene with the spectators down below. You did not want to make your life a spectacle just yet, you had no intent on going down that road. ”Are you okay? What happened when you fled?”
