Sussex Fowler-district 10 (finished)

Sussex's hair is dark auburn, wavy and covers his neck and ears. He has sunkissed medium skin, and an oval face shape with attached earlobes. His close set, hooded eyes are hazel. Sussex also has a dust of freckles on his body, but there is an explosion of them on his neck. His short stature with broad shoulders brings to mind a chicken, although he is quite lithe as well because of his farmer background. Furthermore, Sussex wears hats constantly, especially those with wider brims because he spends a lot of time outside.

Sussex also has a multitude of bug bites and rashes on his arms and legs, due to spending a lot of time in the sun. Notably, however, Sussex's face is relatively bug bite free, as if even the bugs are repulsed by the scraggly petite goatee on his face. His facial hair cannot ever seem to grow past that length, but Sussex keeps it because he knows the insects tend to avoid his face.

Sussex enjoys keeping people, on their toes, often letting out a few barks of laughter before threatening someone in a polite, level-headed voice. He's a hard boy to figure out, seemingly pleasant and mild until he proves otherwise. He even occasionally puts on the lazy, dumb farm boy routine, but is not at all gullible. In fact, he's quite cunning, as proven by his talent for approaching birds and not scaring them off.

Sussex is also emotionally guarded, and cynical, and thus has a hard time forming bonds that are genuine. He feels as if he has to lie in order to survive, even in his time as the son of a chicken farmer. As a result, people don't want to approach him either, making it even harder to form bonds. His cynicism shows through in his humor as well, as it is very deadpan and hard to miss. He is still polite, even when employing his sense of humor.

Most notably, if Sussex trusts somebody, he will be more open and will be willing to make dumber decisions to protect them. He's more honest around these people than he will be around anyone else. He trusts them basically completely and is loyal to them, thinking that these people have earned it. Because he thinks that trust and loyalty are earned, a thing that disgusts him is backstabbers, as they don't deserve the trust that's been given to him.

 Sussex's name is derived from the Sussex chicken breed, which makes sense, considering his parents are both chicken farmers. He has an older brother, although, by the time Sussex was reaping age, his brother was 21 years old. As a result of the huge age gap, Sussex and his brother got along surprisingly well. His brother was his mentor, encouraging him, occasionally scolding him for being stupid, and sometimes laughing at the mistakes that made Sussex laugh because they were so dumb and slightly destructive. However, Sussex proved to be talented at catching chickens ( geese terrified him a little ), approaching them from the side and not looking directly at them so that they wouldn't be able to fly away.

The event that affected his personality was his first viewing of the Games, especially when he found out everyone was being sent to their deaths for a rebellion, and that the Games were annual. Only one person could win the Games, and even then, they didn't win at life. After all, the president still had control over the districts. His cynicism increased, though, when a child of 10 was beaten severely for stealing a few eggs. Based on the fact that there were the Hunger Games, he wasn't surprised but was surprised when somebody else saw this beating and decided to report it to the peacekeepers. Sussex was pessimistic about the Peacekeeper getting punished, and he was right. The Peacekeeper got off scot-free.

Ever since he turned twelve, Sussex has been hoping that he isn't reaped, as he doesn't want to go deeper into the system than he and the districts already are. He does resent the fact that he has to watch the deaths of 23 children, often in brutal manners. Now entering his fifth year of eligibility, Sussex doesn't want to be reaped, but he does think about whether he'd want to die early on or not.
