She officially had her first kill, against Jackson Reeves no less. The Gamemakers must be so happy with her at the moment. She won the sparring tournament during training, she lost to the Jackson during the “Bloodbath Tournament”, and then she kills him again. It’s was almost like it was been scripted, although Sober did most of the work, cutting off both of his feet.

She should feel excited, or at least content knowing there’s one less person in her way, one step closer to getting back home. Yet right now Sacrifice is numb. She’s trying to compartmentalize her feeling, telling herself that when she gets home is when she can break down. She’s still in the training center, still fighting for her, yet killing other kids have proven to be more personal than she expected.

She saw the way the boy and Wolf looked at Jackson has he slowly bled out. Sacrifice could feel her heart breaking as she saw them allow themselves to feel. She left them take Jackson away, on the condition that they left everything they had, what’s one more to the kill count anyway? She could feel her grip in her emotions slipping though, and she doesn’t know how to handle it.

“Siber,” Saveifice starts. “I never went to the Academy for training, I just went to regular school. How do they train people to handle these emotions?”

As he and Sacrifice made it away from the fight, he was sure that if he'd been any slower, one of the other tributes would've taken the opportunity to kill him. In that moment, as soon as he'd put enough distance between himself and the enemies, he caught his breath, not even thinking for a second about how all of this had affected Sacrifice.

She said his name, getting his attention as he turned his gaze to look at her.

“I never went to the Academy for training, I just went to regular school. How do they train people to handle these emotions?”

So, she wasn't a career. Honestly, Siber was a bit surprised. She fought like she knew what she was doing, and she'd been the one to secure the kill, but he supposed he just hadn't really thought about the possibility of her never having gone to the career academy to train.

"Oh, I— I'll be entirely honest with you," he told her. "I don't think they ever really talked about the emotions of it all. They just kind-of throw you in with the skills and expect you know how to handle it all. I suppose I hadn't really thought about that."

He was going to say he was sorry, but that wasn't his fault. If he'd had the information, he would've given it to her. He did, however, feel that he started to care about her, at least a little bit. Not quite to the extent as he'd felt about Sunrise, but still, he had empathy.

Sunrise asking him if he was okay had made him feel acknowledged, care about, and like he was actually human. Maybe he could do the same for Sacrifice.

"How are you holding up?" he asked her. "Is there a way I can help, at all?"
