natural selection [fallon x dust]

White walls and padded white floors, you would think one was in an insane asylum. A career center might as well be just that, self-absorbed teenagers taught to ignore humanity in the name of victory. Each one of them pumped full of narcissistic ideals that they were something better, chosen to play God in a world full of nightmares.

I am God. My own God.

A land of no rules was my playground.

My shoulder leaning against the padded wall watching others partake in their spars, some with fake weapons that held the illusion of the real deal and others swing their fists. I had no intention in joining any of the preexisting fights, the day had been long enough. There was always tomorrow when my body was not exhausted from a day’s training.

Still, I stuck around and watched the lawless actions of my peers. The desperation of teenage angst filled the space along with each one of our needs to behave recklessness. Some more than the others. You could easily see the hesitation in some of their eyes as if they were scared of consequences, nothing more than dogs with a shock collar. In their discomfort I found peace, for I knew better than to believe in authority. No one ever got far by playing by the rules, and there was no victory when you were puppet with their strings being pulled.

Right as I was about to call it a night, a swinging fist met my jaw. A small crack when the boys fist met the bone, nothing less than expected in a rage cage. He wanted a fight, then he would get one. ”Well aren’t you are a charmer.” my voice blunt almost annoyed knowing full well that I had no right to be.

I never doubted my own capabilities, but always other intentions. Self-awareness overrode my system wondering if he picked a fight with me thinking he would win. People always forget that those small in stature are not always easy targets. A tempest resided inside of me looking for any outlet to set itself free…control was not in my vocabulary, and I was never afraid to hit below the belt. My knee going for where it would hurt most.

"That wasn’t fair”

Of course, it wasn’t. There is nothing fair to begin with, but he was not complaining about it. In a complete turn of events, it seemed that he enjoyed it. Touché. Not the punch or the attack that came afterwards, pain was not a point of pleasure, it was the mindset he presented. You go swimming in unknown waters, then you have no right to complain when something bites your leg of.

That is who I am, the crocodile hiding in the murky waters unknown to those who dare get to close. Dust was anything but helpless, not with his cocky demeanor. Hands wrapped up signaling he was ready for a fight, a killer machine. There were too goddamn many of those around here, usually in packs where each one was a carbon copy of the one next to them.

Nothing usually worth my time. Yet here I was giving him my seconds as he lured me into a fight where the rules were clear from the beginning. There were none.

Maybe it was fair, I am almost certain Dust was wrong. If there were no rules to be followed when would something become unjustified? I had already proven that he had no advantage over me, there was nothing lost there. Equals on neutral territory. That might just be the fairest fight either of us were ever going to get.

I braced myself as he straightened his postures, hungrier than he was before. His eyes daunting, but inviting me to take a step closer, lessen the gap between us. So, I did, trying hold his gaze in a provocative manor. Eyes looking him up and down as if I were still deciding what to make of him, but I had already made up my mind. ”You don’t seem to mind it all that much. Go on then, take your best shot. Make this a challenge.” This time I send my fist swinging, there was not much time to play around. I had to be home intime for supper, God only knows what my uncles would complain about if I turned up late.

Prosecution when all I was doing is what they wanted, training like a good career. Now how is any of that fair?
