They named you Dríva for you arrived with the first snow of the season.

White flakes covered the ground embracing you into it’s burning cold. Almost to be lost forever in the storm. A piece of you never to be found again for you had not entered this world alone. The touch of the one born alongside became a memory melted away just as the snow surrounding your infant form. A faint whisper within the storm. Reckoning to be found once more.

They named you Dríva for your missing piece drifting away in the snow flooded night. Blessed by Ullr in a vow to be reunited once more.

An oath sworn without words, unknowing on each part but the fire burned bright keeping you warm throughout the storm. Lingering throughout your childhood and eating you alive in adolescence. What was once hope became curiosity and with time bitterness till there was nothing left to feel.

Emptiness ruled inside of you.

The days passed and you longed for the spring to come, release you from Ullr’s ever tightening ring. Suffocation replaced your once light breath for no oath under the gods name could go unbroken. It would be your demise and salvation.

You led a one-man manhunt with the force of an army behind you. Óðr claiming your spirit to be his own, unwillingly slipping into his realm with delusions of a life led in unison. Night terrors sending you into a frenzied state, the others unable to comfort you. Visions of fimbulvetr threating the end of it all. The three-year long winter felt like an eternity for every night told the same story. A death in the same construction of your birth, the circle became complete. For you would die an unworthy death indebted to the gods all because of a broken vow.

So, you called upon Ullr once more, beckoning for a second ring. One gently placed around your wrist as you whispered for only him to hear. A promise never to be broken, for your word became true and pure. An oath to never utter a word you never meant, binding you to be truthful until your final breath.

Emptiness grew into fear. Fear once more turned into emptiness. A vicious cycle of contempt.

Yet the ring wrapping around your wrist gave hope in even the harshest of storms.

For when your soul is empty there is still a light burning deep within sheltering you from the harsh winter inside of you. Hope that one day questions you never dared asked would find their answer. For if no one else than Vafþrúðnir and Odin could hold the answers. The wise giant weaving out your future if you could survive the winter. A battle of wits between the two and you stood in the middle of their crossfire. Who knew the answer you were desperately trying to find, would one of them finally lead you to the one separated all those years ago. Would they share their knowledge with you even if they knew?

Years of unknown had passed. Atrocities occurred, Óðr lashing out and Ullr punishing you. Any time there was another death, your mind wandered to the ring on your wrist. A punishment for your inability to comply. It was all of your fault; every single second of your families suffer was because of you. Reassurance from the others passed by like the weather. Never enough rain to extinguish a flowers thirst permanently.

Inconsolable as emptiness turned into sorrow.

The sorrow never quite went away. It stuck like a leech, sucking you dry of an energy inside. Raining down on the light inside forcing it out. To get out of bed in the morning became fight you were not ready to put up. The bow on your wall, a symbol of gratitude to Ullr became untouched distancing yourself from the god more and more with each day.

The ring of that very first oath tightening its grasp, forcing you into your last breaths.

That is until you saw her, the one with your face amongst the crowds.

For the first time you could breathe, air filling your lungs. The light within bursting with light.

Sorrow turned into hope. Hope would keep you going. You had found her once and you would find her again. She had survived the storm just like you, born from snow in Ullr’s grasp.

A promise finally fulfilled for your word meant your life and in this moment it had just begun.
