A long time ago I went by a different name. A poor little girl working on the docks of district four, waiting for someone to come and save me. Daydreaming of the moment my knight in shining armor would come to my rescue, a fairytale ending.

A story of hope.

At night I would dream of a castle made of gold. Gifted with a Midas touch, the growling stomach of long ago forever forgotten.

My castle was not made of gold, it was built sturdy with stone. Small but able to withstand any storm the coast would cast upon us. At the heart, a woman who was as cold as the harshest of winters. Her stern voice scolding me as my finger’s reached too deep into the pocket of a sailor. Greed would be the end of me. She warned with a hint of approval. Greed would become the Midas touch I dreamt of.

Dieu-Le-Veut. God wills it.

And so, he had. I took on a new name, a new purpose. There was no one coming to save me for underneath the knight’s amour hid a monster, the father of my daughter. I would be his slayer, and my little girl served as my sword. The one we shared together, eventually he would wall by his own creation.

My spitting image, but her heart belonged to the monsters. One day she would come to learn the lesson’s I had learned long before. I would force it down her throat if necessary. It was now my cold blood that ran through the walls of the tavern, my kingdom. A one where those who believe to be above god would become my victim. No longer a little girl, never innocent, but ridden of the naivety blinding my eyes to the world.

I had changed the narrative.

I had it all, but everything would never be enough. I always wanted more. Wind blowing in my hair with the taste of sea salt on my tongue. Freedom came at price.
