There is a difference between being unable to speak and choosing not to. I had learned to pronounce my words such as any young kid had learned along with the ability to read and write. There were no abnormalities of any kind of concern, I had simply chosen not to speak.

Words are powerful, a weapon I would never completely control. No one man could ever understand speech to its fullest extent for interpretation always got in the way of its original intention. Emotion being its greatest strength and Achillies heel all at the same time.

So, I came to my conclusion that my voice, my speech would only be for the privileged. The ones I held close in my heart and home. How tragic that there were few such people in my life.

Unintentionally I had become a metaphor. A storm you never saw coming, The quiet kind of whisper in the wind, almost invisible. Moving between the lives of family and strangers alike without anyone noticing. Overhearing secrets best not told aloud for no one pays attention to the girl who refuses to speak.

One day I will strike, unexpected, not from little Theodorka. Too busy carefully placing pins on the wings of butterflies to notice the effect their wings flapping could cause. Working underneath candlelight for inexplicable reasons. Roaming the hallways with a golden candelabra with the main of a majestic lion amongst the grips. What a peculiar child indeed, smart beyond compare however an enigma no one can decipher.

Most have given up trying, some see it as an opportunity to rant the night away knowing an answer escaping my lips would be unlikely. Expecting for me to keep their secrets to myself, each of them unaware that my silence does not translate to trustworthy or harmless.

The day will come when it will benefit me the most, I will take them all down one by one.

Us silent one’s often have the most cruel of intentions beating in our crimson red heart.
