CATERINA LE ROUX
Nineteen-years-old, a doomed age for a career that doesn’t have blood underneath her fingernails. In her mother’s ideal world, if Cathy is without a crown, she is better off in the dirt with Silk, Emmett and Emerson. So, what now for Cathy Le Roux? Her twin seems to have it figured out. The District Two dream has gone in the garbage, just like its industry. It was a naïve child’s dream to pursue, especially now that the District has gone to the dogs.
It would’ve been far away from here though and the wrath of Eurydice Le Roux. She should roll some dice, pick another dream. Four has always allured her. Maybe a vacation there now that she is not bound to any responsibilities.
Cathy is legally her own guardian now but there is still a bolt on the Le Roux’s house. Her mother still has uses for her: grandchildren to fill the cemetery’s plot in a decade or two.
Another election season, five years ago Cathy kept out of the madness but this year she has been interviewed to endorse her mother and now her interest of becoming a mayor one year has pricked a few ears. Another pipe dream but she is not going to throw it away yet.
Cathy is standing outside of her mother’s mayoral office. She has offered to help today, or has had no choice but to help today. She knocks and waits for the signal to step in, a formal procedure just to speak to her own mother. Cathy doesn’t take a seat. She waits for her mother to speak first and then she opens her lips. She stands stiff in front of her mother’s desk; she’ll only be at ease until she is told to. ”I want to be useful for you today in your campaign efforts. Put me to work mother, I want to learn all about your duties as mayor.”
