There wasn't enough time to roll up party hats, but that was okay.
Lucky tended to the pool room for an hour before the party was set to begin. He smuggled more paint from the camouflage station this morning. To ease everyone else's mind about stealing the equipment, he made sure to come up with one lie and one excuse: he saw the instructor open a cabinet filled with tubes of paint, plus the Capitol was richer than all of their districts combined. They could spare some arts and crafts materials.
One thing that the boy from Four refused to be was discrete about the celebrations. In giant strokes of sunset hues, Lucky took ownership of the event on the inside wall of the swimming pool: HAPPY SEVENTEENTH BIRTHDAY, LUCKY! Splashes of color surrounded the words like makeshift confetti. It extended from the walls to the floors, seating, and even the pool rails and ladders.
The shallow end of the pool had a table labeled: for gifts. Lucky did not ask for anything. In fact, he told one of the tributes to 'just bring themselves as their presence was a present itself, but he prepared the table anyway anyone who wanted to kiss some ass by giving him something. At the deep end were refreshments and snacks. Some of the snacks were fresh from the District Four refrigerator, but the bagels and fruit cups were the cafeteria leftovers that Lucky juggled into the pool area earlier. His most prized possession was a small cake that he begged his escort to grab for his special day; chocolate fudge with a blue-to-white gradient frosting and a pair of unlit candles: 1 and 7.
Music was the only thing missing from the event. He couldn't figure the speakers out. Maybe if he had convinced one of the hacker goons of the tribute batch to get their coding… mainframe… hacker game on or something of the sort, but by the time he and Gunner snatched the key from that old custodian, Lucky was already stung for time. He hoped the tributes were as strong at a capella as the villagers back home, or he might walk out of his 17th birthday party with one eye and zero ears.
Lucky changed his clothes in the adjoining bathroom. He'd searched in the depths of his drawers for a pair of swimming trunks that would show off his playful side. The default black pair that rode down to his knees, even with his very long legs, mind you, were an eye sore. Thankfully, a pair of pink trunks were buried deep in the bottom drawer. The shade of pink varied, working in layers of topography, but as Lucky checked himself out in the mirror, he only grew more confident: their length only seemed to make him look taller, stronger, and prettier to the eye. "And the birthday boy's ready for his birthday bash!" He blew finger guns in the bathroom mirror, messed with his hair one last time, and walked out to open the floodgates.
He pulled the key from beneath a stack of orange life vests. They were much too old to be touching those things now. Lucky swung the blue key between his thumb and pointer, round and round until it fell into place with the door. Propping it open with his shoe, Lucky skipped to the lifeguard tower, climbing up the tall structure centered on the far wall.
And then, he waited, squirting more of the fresh pink paint across his hands. Lucky kept the rest of the paint out on the tables, just in case anyone wanted to get messy.
The boy perched, one leg crossed over the other on his throne as he caught his breath from an hour's worth of preparations. Soon to be seventeen. Let the party begin!
ooc: the previous day, lucky delivered small notes to each district's floor, inviting tributes to celebrate his seventeenth birthday party as a group. all tributes were invited, but could absolutely choose if they'd attend or not!
it's a teenage birthday party that DEFINITELY isn't being secretly supervised by the gamemakers… absolutely not. have the teenage party drama that your heart desires!
