* * *The sound of my heart racing in my chest was deafening. Sweat beaded on my brows and my stomach twisted uncomfortably as I made quick and hurried steps to the quiet quiet, shadowed corner of the training room. It seemed to be a forgotten area, piles of old sweaty clothes discarded in the corner and the air tasted somewhat stale.
Clutched beneath my shirt, and tightly against my chest, was one of the rarely unattended walkie talkie that had been oh so temptingly left on a table beside the knife throwing station. I had taken one look at it and before I knew what I was doing I had snatched it up before fleeing like a coward for the shadows. It was a reckless and dangerous design that would have had the old me squawking at me like I was a stranger. And in many way I may as well have been.
Taking a deep, calming, breath I pull the walkie talkie from beneath my shirt and pull my knees in close to my chest, shielding the device as I stared down with it. There was still a slight tremble in my fingers and for a long moment I just stare at it thinking what the hell have I done. It most likely would take long for the trainer t realise it was missing, and I would need to be smart about getting it out of here without being caught. though... I could always just return it without being noticed- no. No I would not return it, because fuck them and fuck the rules. I was going to die for them, because of them, so I they owed it to me to be able to live a little before hand.
Static sounds from the device and I curse, curling my body around it to muffle the sounds as I look around me cautiously. Deeming my surroundings safe I peel myself away from the device, fiddling with the buttons a little. I didnt know too much about how they worked, but I did know that you needed to find a the correct channel that would make the communication between multiple devices clear. Flicking the button another burst of static causes my body to tightened quickly followed by a piercing squeal which had my curses become much more colourful and edged.
This time when I look up to scan my surroundings I am not alone. "Well, shit," I mumble as I shove the device up my shirt once more, though I did not doubt the girl had already seen it. Clearing my throat, I force myself to grin up at her with an innocence that I hoped would come across as charming, if not endearing.
"Well, looks like you caught me," I shrug as I force my shoulders to relax a little. "Before you go running to one of the fools in white, hear me out." I gesture towards a peacekeeper to our right before returning my gaze to her. "Help me fix it, and I'll share."
