Hadleigh is not an easy person to be around.

She was a caged dog trained to draw blood. Would it be pointless to try and tame such a wounded child? Klaus Goravich saw a sliver of hope for the girl found in a sweat shop tinkering away on the mechanics of a train.

The girl was clever, but most importantly she was is terrified. Haddie never learned the meaning of trust. Constantly screwed over by the next person promising her everything. When the victors had offered her another shot, she refused. Shut down their offer without batting an eye, accusing them in a raised voice of their cruelty. To her they were just two more scumbags to add to her list.

Still, they came back, and Haddie found away to convince herself they were full of shit. Hesitant to allow herself to hope for a better future. Paranoia running rampant blinding her from an opportunity she would never get again.

They returned a last time, with another child gripping their offering hands. A little girl that spoke her language, a memory of herself frozen intime. They held a mirror in front of her, displaying the ugly truth that there was no hope for her if she stayed.

Reluctantly she moved into the new house. Always with one foot out the door, ready to fight for her life…Ready to fight for the lives of the other kids. She observed them carefully, using empty threats hoping to steer them in the right direction. Any direction except the one she had taken in life, willing to listen to them.

There was nothing more terrifying than screaming in agony knowing there was no one who would bother to listen.

Hadleigh finally had someone listening to her pain, but she would never believe that there was anyone who ever cared for her.

She was no longer alone, but loneliness still her only companion. Old habits died hard. For all the fancy clothes and nutritious meals would never change the dog trained to kill in order to survive.
