So anyways, he's caught a polar bear.

Caught and tamed, to be a bit more exact and a lot more delusional. He'd been sure the thing's fangs were going to sink into and through him in a moment's notice while he was stranded in the bottom of the bone pit, shaking in boots too big and trying to judge just how hard he'd need to drive the knife downward to even pierce the skin of the beast in front of him.He doesn't know how long he'd stood like that, frozen in his own tracks, until the beast had finally chosen to simply lay down and put its head between paws, staring lazily at him.

Stroke of luck, epic taunt, or maybe a death wish in the making. Whatever it was, the look on Hugo's face is burned permanent into the front of his brain, charred and smoking and making him laugh whenever he thinks of it.

It's enough to almost make him forget about where he is, who he is, what he'll end up being. Almost.

But there are silver linings to be found between the lines of red that course and bend across his uniform from the bloodbath, swaying softly with the ebb and flow of waves of pain emanating from his broken knee. For all of his faults and all of his stupidity Axyl Willoughby is alive, beating heart in shallow chest

But he's alive. For now.

Because the arena has a way of testing the waters whenever they seem calm, a knife to the gut or a broken knee or climbing on the back of a bear thrice one's size. Kicking the corpse when it's already down and dead, knives in stomach and back.

Or, in this case it is Lionel Estrada coming into his view as they make their way away from the purple, stormy skies atop beasts of nature. He can't help the bead of sweat that still rests on his forehead, finally losing sight of whatever it was in the sky only to be met with something just as ugly and twice as venomous.

"Yeah, yeah." He calls to his half-hearted enemy, training station argument and scuffle seeming like an eternity and a half ago. "Flippin' the bird won't do much in a place like this."

He gets down from the polar bear, carefully and slowly and still wincing on a banged up leg. He looks bad, Lionel looks ten times worse, and in the reflection of the knife he's holding so tight his hand quits shaking he sees Hugo getting off of his mount behind him. "Especially cause you're lookin' a lot more banged up than me."

See? Silver linings.
