It was freezing out here.
Like, really fucking cold.
Even with the layers she had stacked on from the Cornucopia, the chill still bit down to her bone. Suddenly, Xylia was regretting suggesting that they explore the surrounding areas. She would much prefer the warmth of the cabin that was acting as the Cornucopia, even if the shattered windows did let in a draft.
The chill wind bit at her cheeks and snowflakes stuck to her lashes, making it rather difficult to see. Regardless, she trudged on, hoping to find something useful that she could bring back to her allies. Information, items, or even someone to kill. That would work too. But she saw and heard no one, just the howling of the wind and the sounds of her heavy breath.
That was until there was the sound of a branch cracking nearby.
Instinctively, Xylia grabbed a knife from her side, prepared to launch it at whoever waited beyond the brush. She paused, holding her breath, counting down the seconds. Another crack, the shifting of a shrub, and out hopped a small fox shaped creature with blue fur that instantly began sniffing at her shoes.
”Well, shit. You’re pretty cute.”
She took a step to the left. It followed.
A step to the right. It followed again.
”Well, I guess you’re mine now,” she said as she tried not to let a smile come to her lips. She bends over, sticking out her palm. The creature doesn't hesitate as she cradles her head in her hand.”Just don’t get me killed, okay?”
And she headed back to the cabin with her new friends, to show her allies what she had found at the mysterious tower in the woods. But when she went searching threw her bag later that night, the golden compass from the cornucopia was mysteriously gone.
