Scott learned the bounds of parenthood during the Rose Plague. Before then, he worked through the evenings and nights. His wife, Lysanne, was the one who spent most of her time with the kids. While she worked days, he worked nights in the hospital, and they only crossed paths for an hour or two each day when they arrived home. As for his quality time with his kids, two girls, and a boy, Scott had enough time to walk them home from school and make them a quick snack before getting ready for work himself.

Nothing about how he missed his kids' sports games, science fairs, or award ceremonies was ideal, but there was always something to do at the hospital: consultations, surgery prep, post-surgery care. Not to mention the training he had to provide for the revolving door of anesthesiologist assistants. He loved his work, but it grew into a larger and larger priority overtime when he hoped it would become more manageable.

Scott the Dad had to take time off for parent-teacher conferences.

Scott the Doctor had to take on-call shifts because there was a shortage of specialists in anesthesia.

Scott the Dad begged his neighbor if the kids could eat dinner at their house three nights a week.

And the workload for Scott the Doctor-Dad only got heavier with the Capitol's further investment in the hospital?

How is any of it sustainable?
