I sit there for a while, my back pressed up against a tree, Mouse pressed close to my side, his eyes pinned to the lifeless form of across from us. Blood pooled around the body, and its lifeless eyes glared at us. "We did it," I breathe, tearing my eyes from Mr. Broodys lifeless corpse long enough to look up at Mouse. "We did it for her, for Felicity," Mouse looks down at me at the sound of her name and for a moment I sweat I should see something like grief and pain flash in the depths of his dark onyx eyes before his eyes return to the body.
"Tonights going to be really awkward without her, huh, buddy?" I tease gently as I give him a playful elbow. Instantly his eyes fly back to mine and something like what the fuck is that supposed me mean burns deep within them. I grin at him, providing him with no explanation as my eyes are drawn back to the lifeless body before us. Anger warred with satisfaction as I glared at him, "I should have taken his eye, just like he had done to her- Can you believe he didn't even blink an eye at what I did to Marceline? That was totally fucked up." But I knew that it had hurt him, hurt him to know that she died alone, surrounded by people desperate to spill her blood. I knew that it had torn him apart waring with himself because he knew she had to die, because he had wanted to live.
And I knew I should feel so fucking bad about taking that away from him.
But I didn't.
And wasn't that fucking twisted.
Maybe I was a monster, raised by a father who would rather tear me down than build me up. A mother who swore that she loved her sons equally but never failed to remind me that I would always be put last when it came down to it. And maybe being a monster was something that I should hate about myself... But I don't. Because being that 'monster' that Mr. Broody seemed so tormented over being felted so damned good in all the best ways possible.
And I was embracing it.
"Come on, Mouse." I climb to my feet, cracking my knuckles before picking up my things and climbing onto his back. "Lets go hunting."
