Fun fact! It doesn't get better.
They say the Hunger Games have run their course after the 9th, the 10th, the 11th. Interest wanes until they find a new way to obscure cruelty in consumerism. Idolatry suits Blair, he's got a face that cameras love. Sweet, sheepish, modest - not only appealing to Capitolites. A shame, of course, that his games went the way he did but it was hardly his fault. The blame lays squarely upon the shoulders of the Gamemakers.
Whatever happened to them, anyway?
Blair makes a point not to think about it.
Victory tours start up. The chains between the districts had begun to rust, the ever-present hum of rebellion acting as an underlying threat. Or maybe that's just a convenient excuse for a tighter leash. All Blair knows is that he is told to pack his things and board a train, so he does. He's comfortable in front of crowds, he'd been chasing glory long before he'd been reaped, and introduces the list of names written on the piece of paper folded up in his suit pocket.
There's so many of them now, they stop letting mistakes like Mohamed and him happen. Each new victor is another killer.
"Thank you for having me, District Two." His stomach lurches, the words like chalk and concrete between his teeth. Congealing into a suffocating mass that he struggles to swallow. Blair hasn't been thankful for anything since they fished him out of that basement.
Speaking of-
No, surely not.
Ghosts do not exist, and he has not thought of Jovis or Teagan in a very long time.
Of course, they saved his life be ruining theirs. The only reason he stands on this stage is because the water's protection. When his piece is said and done, he cannot help but search for that same familiarity.
If either of them still live, perhaps he ought to thank them.
