The games had begun the second Circe Murdock’s voice had bounced off the buildings of the games square in district four. A young career a few years younger than her eighteenth birthday, an age deemed acceptable for the majority of careers to volunteer. Circe, as arrogant as she was, was anything but the majority.

Without missing a beat, she had requested the information of the remaining twenty-three tributes that would be joining her in the arena. Doing her due diligence to weed out those who would be an easy target and those she would rather have on her side. Something about her district partner Tide left a sour taste in her mouth. His sense of self importance had shown to outgrow the first impression she had of him. Circe had never been afraid to compete in the game of who had the biggest ego, it instead often reminded her of her life back in four. Sticking out her leg so that whatever sibling passing by would fall ungracefully on their face.

A move Circe had performed both literally and metaphorically more than she could count.

As she entered the training center for the first time the day before, she had been overwhelmed beyond compare. The size of it all only a portion of the private training facilities back in four. Whilst they had everything Circe could have wanted to train, it seemed it was all for a waste. Tributes grappling with weapons they have evidently never have held in their hands. She did not see the point in even bothering with those who’s lived had been dedicated to anything else but the games.

What could they possibly learn in a week compared to the years of training she had?

It was however not her place to judge, the gamemakers sitting above behind their forcefield would rule in their private training sessions only few days later.

The day before, Circe had made a point of being one of the first to step in the training center. Hoping she would have caught the gamemakers on their own to deliver the first impression of a red-blooded career, itching for the kill already. Playing their games until they believed just as much as she did that she was their perfect victor from a legacy family. There was nothing any of the other’s could offer that Circe was not certain she could do all that much better.

With grace and elegance, she maneuvered her way through the training center. An image of a diplomatic killer, smiling a cold smile with no emotion behind her red lips. One could have described her floating across the training floor, nose in the air as the place had belonged to her. Never unpolite, she greeted the tributes she had passed, quizzing herself on their names until she had caught up with Portia.

The girl from district one was an obvious ally. As early as her in the training center, pushing Circe’s competitive nature and also her buttons. Not yet ready to call her a friend (Although Circe had never called anyone a friend), an understanding had formed in a form of a contest of who could do it better. Both of them equally as competitive, she knew she could not stick with Portia forever. Eventually the day would come for Circe to serve her head upon one of those fancy silver platters they manufactured back in one.

“You see that girl over there?” Circe approached pointing out the dirty blond tribute from district six. “I have a hunch about her”. Straight to the point, she did waste time with pleasantries, not with the girl from one. She assumed that Portia knew just as well as she did that they would never be friends.

“Seraphina”

Circe called out as the tribute had walked past her, quickly moving into her pathway not allowing for her to escape. A tactic she often used with her own siblings, invading their personal space abusing silence to create a hostile atmosphere. Hoping Portia would play along, trapping the girl from both sides. Making sure she could not run away.

“Seraphina Keoch….the volunteer from district six. The only other volunteer besides myself…Now why would you do that? Aren’t you also curious, Portia?” Circe was smiling once more. She had a feeling about her, something in her gut screamed that there was more to this girl. She just might be able to hold her own amongst the two careers.
