Circe Murdock’s confidence could be broken only when it came to family matters. Her fragile ego built on the assumption of greatness, the very foundation lying on the achievements of a grandfather that might as well have been a figment of her father’s imagination. The granddaughter of the first victor from four sounded more impressive than it actually was. There were times her own self importance rested on those morals alone, building herself back up as she was reminded to have not achieved anything of her own yet.

The training station had offered the tributes practice at any craft they had sought out, Circe had considered herself an all arounder. Certain there was not a tribute who would swim better than her, hold their breath whilst rocking back and forth as the waves rattled her, no one knew like she did what it took to survive in world where everyone wanted to bring you down, and she was certain as long as it was not a spear she was wielding she would prove to be a true career.

A station she had not seen all too many lurking about had been the hand in hand combat station. Boxing dummies set up along the perimeter for tributes to choose their target. If brave enough, they could step into a ring and attempt their luck at a spar. One with no consequences, she was all to well aware that the capitol would not allow for tributes to be roughed up early. Unfortunate for her as she already began to compel a list of those she would not mind sucker punching in their face.

Her district partner to begin with.

But she knew the rules and she knew better to break them.

Circe would settle for the dummies. She was the kind of girl to bottle up emotions and using all her willpower suppress them deep down. There never was enough time for her to process and attempt to make sense as it became increasingly difficult for her comprehend the incomprehensible. She brought her fist up in front of her face, about to strike out at a fake person without a face when there was a voice from behind. Circe turned around to face Theo Horner offering her a fight. An opportunity she would be incredibly stupid to turn down.

Not only had her education made it abundantly clear that being a victor was the highest honor, just as she had a list of those she was prepared to kill, Circe had a list of those to impress. The victor from eight may have been no Nixie Summers but he had still won the games. A feat Circe was convinced she would master. With her nose in the air, she smiled calmly in front of a worthy opponent. If she could beat him, a big if, it would send a message to the other tributes; Don’t mess with Circe Murdock.

“I’m always looking for more practice, Circe Murdock. District four” She introduced herself before stepping in the ring. It was clear that Theo would have every advantage over, one that stood out was how short the girl was. She knew if she wanted to have any upper hand, she would need to attack fast before Theo would have time to think about the fight. As quick as she could, she threw her fist right out towards him, concentrated on not making a fool of herself. “I’m not worried at all” she replied with a hint of her confidence bleeding through her words.
