The Bloodbath goes silent from its own screams not long after he's gone, begging for the sound of a cannon and receiving nothing but ghosts in response. He'd camped out just outside of the Cornucopia, listening to the sounds of the headliner band rise and fall as steel and screams had clashed together. It had to have been one of the shortest Bloodbaths in history, set to a horrifying tune and punctuated by a distinct lack of tributes rising to meet their fates.
The last part still curls in his stomach, that his own district partner, that nearly half of his fellow tributes were nowhere to be found, their cannons the only thing that could cover up the unrelenting sounds of a mechanical band.
Even now they continue playing, serenading his pickiness as he wanders his way through what remains of the space he'd fled from so recently. The pedestals of nearly half the tributes still hadn't opened up and revealed themselves, and the absence of cannons still carve and shake him to his core as he walks forwards into what was once the fray. The band on the stage still plays a melodic tune, an audience of one their only attendee, and it's all he can do but stop himself from carving their instruments into bits with his bare fists as the tune stops, automates, restarts.
Still, the area is a notable refuge from the intense heat on the rest of the arena, morning sun sitting heavy in the sky above, orange sands coated in waves of humidity that crests across the hills. Carmen was somewhere out there now, diverting away from the Bloodbath just like he had. He's like a wolf, the wya he smells the air as if there'd be any trace of her left for him to follow, as if the sands hadn't completely swallowed any trace of her whole as soon as they'd split ways.
Spoils gone, hopelessly exposed, he swallows down the impending sense of danger and sets to work, foraging through the leftover bits and pieces of his own bruised ego as he moves.
