Laying Broken on the Floor [Artemis Day 3]

Portia flies off in a flurry on sand of lights, and I’m left standing on my own in the sand watching as she grows smaller in the distance. I hope that wherever she’s flying off to, she can start healing and finding her peace. Blood drips from my blade and body, painting the sand below me a deep crimson that seeps into the pigment of the sand. How am I supposed to keep moving forward after that? She isn’t just a mutt that came down because I seem like easy pickings. She is, or was, a girl with hopes and aspirations, which have become twisted and warped by the Gamemaker’s hands. It’s one thing to sacrifice children in a ceremonial death show, but it is something even worse to take away the spirit of who they are and turn them into freaks for the entertainment of others. I know that the Capitol doesn’t see kids from the District as human, but this brazen display of contempt is just an insult to injury.

Tears still roll down my face as I make my way forward hoping to escape the black sands for good. Two full days is more than enough, and I need a bath. There was to be some sort of water source in the godforsaken desert. It wouldn't be a good show if we all died of dehydration. Granted, with what the Gamemakers put Portua through, I wouldn't be surprised if that was part of their plan all along. Let us little creatures die of dehydration on top of being diced and sliced. Wouldn’t that be funny? Damn it, I hate the Gamemakers so much! How could they do that to Portia? How can take a girl and twist her beyond recognition? Turn her into a creature for their twisted entertainment. It’s vile and cruel, and I want nothing more than to stick my blade into all three of their chests.

I throw my bag down in frustration as I start to see a sea of mirages break over the horizon. I can't even trust my own eyes now because of those men, fucking with the Arena to tempt me with shit that is most likely not there. It doesn't matter right now though, the moon is starting its descent into the horizon, and I don't want to be outside when the sun is outside. While the tent does a good job of keeping some of the heat out, it's not fully heatproof.
