It was a hot, dry and unwelcoming day in District 10, so, it was like every other day. The sun knew its strength in the skies above and made sure the citizens understood its power. Andres started the day like he always did, awake at the crack of dawn and tending to the livestock. He sweat away the morning through mucking out the sheeps barns, carrying large swaths of feed as they circled him eagerly, checked on one of the oldest sheep who had begun to look rather poorly in its old age. Sorry darling, but you'll be good food for a good bunch of a people. What the peacekeepers don't know won't hurt them. It wasn't just the dryness of the town that was grueling, it was the Capitol overseers that truly made it unbearable. It was getting harder and harder for citizens to keep anything that they made without some official breaking in the door and taking more than they needed just to prove a point. You had to be careful lest you want to face their strict punishment.
Andres sighed, that's life, no point dwelling still lots to do. iHe returned home and with a quick bite of bread and a splash of water on his face he was off again, this time he headed towards town. He took the old beat up truck his family had, it was a miracle it still ran, to the District 10s centre. It's where the most pleasant smells and sights were, such as the slaughterhouse, processing plants and of course where the Reapings are held. He was in town for a few things to trade some goods with fellow District 10 people, give precious resources away to the Capitol and lastly, meet up with Hawke Klein for a private deal. It wasn't unusual for Andres to meet up with certain families around the District, after all, how else are you meant to survive working on a farm your whole life without good food and fun contraband things to get a thrill going once in a while.
In spite of being hellbent to keep to the straight and narrow, Andres found that he sometimes craved for a little bit more. Not out of greed, just out of pure fun. His mind became clear once again once he pushed those foolish thoughts from his head. He coldly carried crates of fresh wool to be checked and approved of by officials that stood around with scowls and clipboards. He placed one after the other and once eternity had passed he was free to go. You sure you're allowed that truck citizen? Hm I'm thinkin' we need to get all these farms checked out for anything that should be confiscated for the Capitol. Andres stared blankly at the official and simply bowed his head lightly in respect as his mouth clenched in fear and anger. He went and saw an elderly women that he saw regularly. He pulled a small jacket out of his satchel, it was the women's that he had fixed up for her with extra wool lining to prepare for the colder nights that would be upon them soon enough. She always gave him beef jerky. He would always ask her for how she did it so he could learn, but she would just smile and shake her head. Then you'll have no reason to and help me dear. He'd still help her, but he let her keep her secret, it was one of the few things she had.
He hopped back into his truck and drove to a quieter part of town that backed onto the vast fields that seemed to go on forever. He would wait here for the last person he needed to see. Something about Hawke intrigued Andres but he could never put his finger on it. Was it something about his family, his work ethic, or was it how his muscles flexed when handling a horse that won't stay still. Andres shook the thought from his head it's not nice to think about people in that way, especially when it was women he should be pointing those thoughts towards.
