Georgie got to say goodbye to her mom. There was no good or bye from her lips but the conversation ended like a farewell. Every time she has met her mom secretly, it has always felt like that. She never knows when she will get the chance to see her again. She doesn’t know what her dad will think about the meetings, he hardly ever mentions her. Just moans that she abandoned them both and I have done well enough all these years to bring you up!
Fair enough dad but the whole District hates me!
It feels that way when she is looking through the glass at the train station. Everyone is gathered, not because they want to be there. The peacekeepers have ushered them to make up the numbers for the cameras, she is pretty sure some of them in the back are mannequins. ”Them ones are definitely cardboard cut outs.” She points to a group at the back who all look the same, ”Or are they lab baby sextuplets.” Her reflection bounces off them and soon the faces that hate her disappear as the train’s engines kick in.
One thing that her dad’s job (or her nepotism) has blessed her with is that she is already well acquainted with most of the people on this train. Just not the new one and the one she must now call District partner. That is the first one she tries to talk to.
Georgie turns her back to the window; she rests herself on the metal handle that run underneath it. There is a lot of food on the tables, but this morning’s breakfast hasn’t even been digested yet. ”You’re really little, aren’t you?” She asks the blonde girl, whose name got called after hers. ”I’ve always been the baby around here,” Georgie points over to Uncle Teddy with her thumb who has only just shown his face. ”But I don’t mind having a little sister.”
She doesn’t stop her poking there though. Even while balancing on the metal railing with both hands, stretching her back as she does. Just to be sure, she asks ”have any of your family been arrested recently? Always good to know.” Good to know that she is not sharing a train ride with someone her dad has wronged.Dars.
