”Torn from her world that has been plagued by witches and ghouls, the hero is trapped in the most wicked curse. She is confined to a forest maze, hopeless of ever finding her way home.
Our hero helplessly wanders this dark land, lost to its unfamiliarity with no hope of finding her way. Except one day her endless forest paths cross with another’s. Can an unlikely bond lead the way to her freedom?” Georgie flips the book from the brief blurb to its bright green front cover. It is certainly ghoulish. There’s a bubbling cauldron on the front, and dead branches hanging over it. Bobbling inside the cauldron are two figures.
”I bet the witch turns them into a potion.” It is a tale that sounds similar to one she read while living at Teddy’s. Or did someone read it to her? Two siblings that left a trail behind them that lead home, one with breadcrumbs and another with stones. She is pretty sure it ended with them putting someone in an oven. The title is lost on her, but she has very vivid memories of the illustration, oddly a gingerbread house…
”Okay, I will read this.”
For nearly half an hour, she has been reading aloud the blurbs of books and then chucking them back on the shelves. Nobody has been around to listen, or to give an opinion on what she should be reading. There’s not one person she has met yet that she finds friend material, other than D’Arcy who she has adopted as her little sister. Only because she is littler than her. The same reason everyone else pities Georgie. She feels so overprotected and she is pretty sure some of them have been talking to her in their baby voices. She is 14! Not a toddler!
Well, the best company she has ever had is with her dad’s secretary and Tortoise, neither of them are here so being alone it is!
Georgie grips the book titled Lost in The Curse with both of her hands, she takes the precious cargo to the darkest part of the library. A flashlight is tucked tightly in her cardigan’s pocket. She walks through the section titled Music and Instruments. There’s no reason a tribute would want to find themselves here and the lighting is poor, there is a bulb out and a few others are flickering.
All of it looks untouched, compared to the shelves near the entrance that have been completely turned over. She finds the perfect corner spot here two different towering bookshelves meet. Georgie drops to the floor, resting her back against hardbacks and she tucks her knees in so she can rest the book on them. The words on the pages are unreadable in this light so she flicks on the flashlight she commandeered from Six’s apartment.
But the flashlight reveals more ghouls than the pages. A shadow suddenly turns into flesh. ”Have you been here the whole time?” It is a guy with a curly dark mop of hair, not much older than herself. Georgie shuffles her feet even tighter against her body as she shuts up the book on her knees. She’s unknowingly shining the bright light right in the guy’s face. ”I didn’t think anyone would be in this section…”Dars.
