Morning is neither bright nor natural. When it comes, it is artificial: alarm clocks and flourescent lights and tongue-tied avoxes shaking her from nightmares that became corporeal.

She can feel it in her muscles and tendons and sensations; last night she went somewhere else and she's only here now because someone took pity on her and guided her back to the district 9 apartments.

So, she slept. Some.

But now, after a queasy breakfast of soggy eggs and greasy bacon, she found herself sliding into the ring with one of the district 2 boys. He has soft eyes and even softer hair but he's still from a district that knows it can win and what, exactly, is she doing here?

Baby lifts her taped fists to the level of her eyes.

"Don't hold back," she whispers a kiss to the angels and starts bouncing on her toes.

Some excitement of being in the training center is learning just what everyone is made of which is why I stand in line for the sparing matchups. It's fun, but it gives me a chance to get a feel of everyone. I watch a couple of matches and nod my head in approval. They're fierce competitors, and I only hope that I can come out on top and reign supreme. I want to win, to go home, but so does everyone else. It seems exciting until I see my opponent is a female.

I don't want to hurt her, yet she tells me not to go easy, and all I want is to walk away. I was taught to never hit a girl, but now that I'm a tribute does that feeling go away? I don't know what I'm supposed to do, so I nod my head letting her know I'll go strong. I just hope I don't break her. "Alright. Good luck." I take a deep breath and have to decide quickly whether to keep my morals or to throw them away for the sake of the game.
