For this year's 98th Hunger Games, the Gamemakers have taken it upon themselves to continue in the tradition of challenging tributes to explore the arena. Recently introduced in the 95th and further personalized in other arena's since, the mechanic "Scavenging" will be available for tributes in the 98th! Similar to how it was ran in the 96th, there are multiple locations that offer special items available only in those regions. All three scavenging locations present unique challenges to those tributes who wish to reap the rewards of adventuring. After all, what is a story without moments of peril?
Rather than making items received via scavenging the only items available in the arena, tributes will still have plenty of access to items outside of scavenging. This makes scavenging entirely optional but potentially beneficial for those who take the time to write the extra posts.
To participate, tributes must first participate in each areas respective challenge in a non-mandated post. Tributes may make as many written posts attempting this as it takes to succeed, if they would like. Each attempt must be it's own individual post. After, you must make a written post again in the respective area for your search, rolling a dice, roll range 1-5, at the very bottom. The resulting roll will correspond to a number on the lists found below, and will be the item the tribute finds. Once successfully accessed, a tribute may only search that area ONCE per day. Tributes may search any one area as many days as they are in the area, but a tribute may not double collect any items. If a tribute rolls something they have already collected, they are allowed to reroll once per games. After that... looks like we've had some loot goblins. Go kill someone for their stuff. ♡
F A I R Y F O U N T A I N accessible via the Ponds. Curious how if one were to try and simply approach the fairy fountain they’d have little luck doing so. A tribute will have the best luck finding this area after the sun begins to set. This fountain seems to never be where you left it and forms out of the base of one of the many trees found growing out of the ponds. A regal face emerges from the wood and gazes down at the tranquil water below it, moonlight cascades off the wooden form as her eyes gently direct you to the tranquil waters below her. She shines like a beacon in the dark. In order to access the Fairy Fountain, a tribute must first succeed on a successful investigation challenge as they attempt to find the source of that radiant light. In a written post, the tribute must roll a 1-20 dice, where 1-9 is a failure. ITEMS AVAILABLE: 1. Fairy Godmother’s Wand (1 use Stun^) 2. Gold coin 3. Helmet of Crystalized Fairy Dust (+5 head) 4. Frog Figurine~ (1 use, absorbs 4 damage from the next attack that hits) 5. Two Smooth Stones* *These function as walkie-talkies. Must be shared with another tribute to function. ^As an action, a tribute may use a wand to prevent another tribute from attacking or taking any other actions in their next post, including station actions such as a Thievery, Light Step, or Self Defense. Rather than deal damage, it sends out a small spark, an electric pulse that shocks a tribute, locking their muscles into place. ~Upon claiming, the figurine turns into a small green frog. They follow the tribute, and negate -4 damage from the next attack that hits them. |
L I G H T L E S S L A G O O N accessible via Mermaid Bay. The cave entrance itself has no interest in hiding from you. It has no need, not when it knows the passage beyond is not for the faint of heart. Nestled at the base of that cliffside, a few yards away from one of the many goat paths that lead up into the wilds above sits a small opening in the craggy face. Those who brave the swim, for the passage ceiling is too low for any boat they may find, must face the might of the tides as they test their mettle against our tributes. Statues of petrified stone greet those who succeed, a host of trinkets and whatits galore scattered about the shallow pool. A matchstick of an ever burning flame flickers at the back, strange light touching the stalactites growing towards the sea floor. Between blinks, you swear you see eyes, the sunken hollows of a skull that looms between the shadows. In order to access the Lightless Lagoon, a tribute must first succeed on a successful swimming challenge as they attempt to swim against the current that rules the passageway into the sea cave. In a written post, the tribute must roll a 1-20 dice, where 1-8 is a failure. AVAILABLE ITEMS: 1. Fishing Rod (2 use Trapping Station/day to Fish) 2. Seashell breastplate (+5 torso) 3. Glass Jar* 4. Silver Scales x3 (-3 healing when placed over eyes and mouth during sleep) 5. Gilded Spyglass (1 use +10 to your initiative roll) *does not stack with other jars |
M I S T Y R E P O S I T O R Y accessible via the Overgrown Tower. The tower beckons to tributes with every passing moment, a lullaby pressing against their ears and daring them to make the climb. High in the tower’s peak, while the murals on the walls remain, the rest of the building seems to have fallen away into darkness, only a shallow ledge around the perimeter of the tower what remains of the floorboards. Winding down and down and down, far past where the ground floor should be, a staircase leads on into darkness, only a glimmer of light hinting at anything even being below. Trekking into the mist eventually reveals a looming iron door that leads into a massive room filled with the scent of mildew and damp parchment. Shelves and tables littered with strange mystical components fill this space, daring curious minds to investigate. In order to access the Misty Repository, a tribute must first succeed on a successful climbing challenge as they attempt to scale the side of the tower. In a written post, the tribute must roll a 1-20 dice, where 1-8 is a failure. AVAILABLE ITEMS: 1. Boomerang (1/ games - attack twice in the same post, throwing knife) 2. Jar of Flowers Petals (1 use Blossom tea, -3 healing)* 3. Elixir of Borrowed Knowledge (1 use either Timing, Trapping, Thievery, Improvisational Weapons, or Firemaking) 4. Fingerless Leather Gloves (+3 hands) 5. Explosive Arrow Tips x3 (useable as ammo for bow or slingshot, applies fire roll) *can only be used once/day *does not stack with other jars once empty |
