Both of the guys from District Two seem… softer than I’d anticipated. At least this one’s a proper Career in name at least, if not in attitude. He moves comfortably with a weapon in his hand. It doesn’t suit him, though. Not in my opinion. There’s something… soft about the look in his eyes. I can’t tell if he’s regretful for hurting the dummy, or if it’s something else. Maybe it isn’t softness at all. Maybe it’s unfocused focus — he’s so used to the routine of attack that he’s able to cast his mind forward. He’s already thinking about something ahead. 

Or maybe I was right the first time and he just feels like an asshole for tearing through the training dummies. 

I draw a sword from the weapons cache and approach. By all accounts on the outside I’m relaxed, because I’m trained to act that way. Internally I temper myself with caution. Nothing and no one have been what I expected them to be, myself included. Since day one it’s been revelation after revelation. I’m ready to be wrong about this guy.

“Hey, Two. Leave a piece of that dummy for me.”
