Laurel finds herself trapped near the top of a tall tree, waiting for the flood waters from the bay to recede. Her head aches less now but she is still bleeding: head wounds always did bled a lot. Laurel tries to entertain herself with her own thoughts, but the injury made concentrating difficult. She was also dehydrated and losing fluids she really could not afford to be using up right now. Laurel takes out her filled up canteen and ponders drinking from it.
She struggles with the decision, making a choice between her organs beginning to fail and the possible infection she could contract from drinking from an unpurified water source. A plopping sound just out of her field of view catches her attention. It was a sound that did not blend in with the others, especially now that the surf had begun to equalize. She looks off to the side and notices a parachute floating in the water. Her entire body aches, but Laurel readjusts her positioning against the tree so she will be able to reach it as the waters continue to push it past her position.
Laurel leans her prone body out on top of another sturdy branch and manages to get a grip on the soaked fabric. It takes some effort to pull the parachute and the small container it had carried out of the surf, mostly because Laurel lacks the energy more than anything else. Laurel breathes heavily for a few long minutes before repositioning herself back on to her previous spot. She is lucky she does not weigh more than she does, or else the second branch might not have supported her weight. She opens the small canister only to find a single iodine pill.
Laurel drops it into her canteen, leans her head back, and closes her eyes as she waits for the water to purify.
