Anthem - Day 4

A muscle twitches in her jaw.

Smoke practically comes out of her ears.

And her foot taps on the cold concrete, echoing in the deafening silence of the room.

It had been three days, three whole without a single death. Sure, there had been fights, and drama, and stories, and plenty of blood spilled to turn the ground of their pretty fairytale crimson, but not a single canon sounded. Not a single body to be buried in the dirt.

The Capitol is restless.

The tributes are restless.

And if she didn’t do something soon, her head would surely be on a platter.

“Enough!” Her voice is frigid as ice, daring to chill all who oppose her frozen solid. It is silent enough in the room to hear a pin drop. The workers stare up in fear, and her fellow Gamemakers watch hesitantly. ”I have had enough of you story telling,” she shoots at Kel. ”I have had enough of your silly little mind games,” she says as she paces the room. ”We will have death, they will fall” a beat.

”Today.”

”The curse-“ Kel’s voice echoes. She stalks over to him before he has a chance to speak, placing a finger on his lips to shush him. ”I do not want to hear it.” Sloane continues her slow stalk around the room. ”If they do not die, someone will pay for this.” Her eyes lock with Georgia.

”And I can promise you it will not be me.”

This time she begins walking towards control boards, pushing buttons, and speaking commands to her workers in low tones. After what seems like ages, she returns to the middle of the room, and with two claps of her hands, movement and activity resume.

”They will die.”

”All of them.”

There will be no winners.

Only victims.
