the sun began to disappear, the air had started to clam up a little bit. with each moment that passed, the cold stung her skin for just a moment. to think that pearl had not heard any cannons in the last couple days. had no one died yet? that was shocking. pearl wondered what the gamemakers might have been up too at this point.
pearl had started to feel somewhat sluggish. she slumped against a tree, her head looking up at what night sky she could see. it was calming at the very least. at least she could find some sort of relaxation here. the fire she had lit earlier had been just a few embers at this point. she could have probably relit it again, but what was the point? for all she knew, it could have led to something that she didnt want to happen.
pearl knew she was reckless, but stupid? she would never call herself that.
she ended up moving into a bush that had been next to the tree she had been resting again. she figured hiding in plain sight might be the best at this point. she used her sword to do some light hedge work, keeping in mind that she didnt want to wake up with some sort of cramp in her leg. once she had been comfortable, she took a couple deep breaths and realized just how tired she was.
she closed her eyes.
a vision of a beach had taken over, the same beach that she grew up off of actually. pearl did always wonder how her family had gotten lucky enough to have a house along the coast line. maybe there was more to her history than her parents had let on. pearl had always been a realist after all.
she looked up towards the horizon, her eyes confused as she realized there had been a small speck of something on the water line. she closed her eyes, and then the speck had become larger. within moments, pearl could make out what it was.
she could have swore it was her mother.
pearl looked away for a moment, until she called her name. thats when she realized that this could have been real. what were the gamemakers doing bringing her parents into this anyway? pearl couldnt wait to get out of this arena so she could give the gamemakers a piece of her mind. the woman held out her hand and told pearl to grab it.
pearl shook her head.
the woman had crossed the water, floating now in front of pearl. her hand now in front of pearls face. pearl looked up, the woman who looked like her mother had such a different appearance.
thats when she realized that this was not her mother.
pearl refused again.
the womans face contorted, her jaw becoming unhinged.
thats when pearl woke up.
pearl opened her eyes, the daylight illuminating the hiding spot that she had made for herself. she stood up after a couple moments, realizing that it had been harder to do so today. she caught her breath and looked out towards the sun. another night without a cannon?
pearl knew another bloodbath was coming.
she kicked her fire into the water to make sure it would put anyone off of her trail. she tried to quickly get out of there, but she realized that her body was not keeping up with her brain.
she felt like she was becoming heavier by the moment.
she eventually got used to the sluggishness, moving from the ponds to a forest full of flowers. she took a moment to admire the beauty, pearl wondered what happened here. this seemed to be a kingdom but now it was nothing more than a battleground of 24 teenagers. maybe that was pearls job to figure all of that out.
she admired the flowers for a moment, recognizing quite a few that she could grab herself. however, before she could reach out for them. she heard a crack behind her.
great.
something was here. sure pulled out her sword and turned around. thats when she realized that one of them she recognized.
"what did i tell you kingston?" pearl was becoming increasingly angry. "dont think i wont make good on my promise." pearl had held the sword out. she took a step forward and then watched as someone else had appeared out of nowhere. someone that she didnt even recognize. "you brought a friend?" pearl scoffed for a moment. her sword still tight in her hands. "maybe i underestimated you this time kingston." pearl was calculating a plan in her head.
"well, lets get this going. the gamemakers want blood, lets give it to them." pearl looked at both of them for only a second.
then charged.
