Boom.
The cannon sounded, the sword in D'Arcy's hands stained red from the fresh blood drawn from Kristof's forehead as the boy from Nine falls to the ground. Her own blood draining from her face as he fell to the ground and didn't get back up. There was no room for the nausea, the dizziness. The world around her crumbled away and left her alone with the sight of what had happened at her hands. She had seen it before, pulled up on the screens back home in vivid detail. It had all seemed so distant then, watching from the safety of District Six, knowing that as the day ended she would be tucked into her own bed, free to worry about the problems that had seemed so big but she now knew were so insignificant. She had just seen it again when the girl from Eight died, but then it had been numbed by adrenaline and pain and disorientation, an event D'Arcy was a world away from. This time she was the one with the blood on her hands, leaving their scarlet red mark that will never wash off.
D'Arcy hears the scuffle indicating Baby and the other girl from Eight have given up on the fight and gone to lick their wounds. She was alone in the patch of grass with nothing but the dead at her feet and her conscience crushed under their weight. She was meant to be a princess, exploring her kingdom in its entirety. She was meant to be her own knight, valiant and heroic and able to protect herself against those who wished her harm. Yet the boy at her feet hadn't caused her any harm; he had waged a war of his own and she had stepped in and ruined it. She was no knight, she was the villain the princess needs protecting from.
She let the tears start to fall, heavy and pained. She felt like a small child again, wishing for her mommy to come and whisk her away as if none of it ever happened. But it had happened, and here she was left to face the consequences of her actions. This was the cost of life for her from now on.
A small nudge at her right harm startled her, until she turned and saw beautiful Percival at her side, muzzling her as if to try and bring the small girl some sort of comfort for her pain. "Oh, Percival, what have I done?" D'Arcy buried her face into his neck and let the sobs pour out of her until her eyes were dry and her voice hoarse, slowly tending to her growing number of wounds. Her right ear wasn't in as bad shape as she had feared, but she had a sinking feeling her hearing may not recover anytime soon. Bandaged, bruised, and bloodstained, but she would live.
In the fading daylight her eyes turned back to what had caught her eye in the first place; the grand tower claimed by nature as its own, calling out her name. It was time she heeded the siren call.
[D'Arcy attempts to climb the tower to get to the Misty Repository]
