He made it to the top breathless and angry, rolling in through the window with a heaving sigh. From here, the ground looked so far away. Climbing up had been one thing but the realization that he would ahve to climb back down was almost enough to make him scream in that moment.

He didn't. There wasn't enough room for it, he thought, wordlessly turning away from the setting sun to step further into the room. There was nothing up here that would save them. Go figure. But he took the chance that maybe there would at least be another way out if he climbed down the spiraling staircase. It took him down, down, down into the earth. The darkness grew darker and he welcomed it, hoping that meant he himself could disappear for a while, be somewhere else. Be someone else. Smells of rot and mold invaded the senses, and somehow mist clouded the walkway. All of these, likely, were warnings to turn back, but Umber did not heed them. He had to figure something out before it was too late; there was no other option.

Eventually, he came to a large iron door. On the other side, so far as he could see in the dark light, there were massive shelves full of books, and scrolls, and parchment paper. He pulled out the recipe he'd found back at the Cornucopia and held it up to one piece, finding them strikingly similar to one another. At least he was in the right place...
