The Gefilte Foster Home is very familiar to citizens of District 4, as they’ve been taken in kids for over a generation. There’s even an unconfirmed sister branch of the foster home in one of the other districts, but that’s just a small rumor that sparked from outside the family home. Surprisingly, despite how long the Gefilte name has been around, nobody in the household has been reaped for the hunger games, but you can never be sure it’ll stay that way.
Members (open, claimed, or NPC):
“Bubbie” Mackrella Gefilte (female, 76) (claimed by rossipatoot) is the oldest person residing in the Gefilte household, and the former matriarch before her adopted son Saltin took over and started bringing children in with his husband Dingo. She has never married, but she’s adopted Saltin as well as 7 other kids, with the others eventually marrying and having their own families, while still keeping in touch. She’s usually in a rocking chair in the living room of the foster home, quietly reading a book, but willing to chat with anyone nearby. It is unclear what her life was like before taking in children, or if there was even a caretaker before her, as she doesn’t talk about it, probably because of trauma or amnesia.
Saltin Gefilte (male, 45) (OPEN) was taken in when he was under 2 years old, and once he reached adulthood, he stuck behind to help bring in a new generation of foster children to the Gefilte home. He eventually married his husband, Dingo Webbing (NPC) and brought in 6 kids, with four of them currently eligible for reaping. He’s thought about hiring a trainer for the sake of it, but he doesn’t like to imagine any of his kids getting reaped for the games. There’s no need for housekeepers, as Saltin does all the cooking and cleaning he can, with other chipping in to help occasionally.
Scampi Gefilte (female, 20) (OPEN) is the first child taken in by Saltin & Dingo. She’s been designated as the eventual successor to her father Saltin in running the Gefilte household, but is ready to pitch in regardless. She’s always offering to help with the cooking and cleaning but is almost always dismissed by her father, who states “you don’t have to worry about providing the meals until you’re the one bringing in the children”. She loves her father, but wishes he wasn’t so insistent on doing everything by himself. In her spare time, she goes out with friends, works as a cashier in a nearby marketplace, and provides company for Bubbie. She often goes to this tavern for single’s night, trying to see if any guys would be suitable partners, but she hasn’t found any luck.
Puffins Gefilte (female, 17) (claimed by rossipatoot) is the second child of Saltin and Dingo, who’s very bubbly and energetic. She has a pretty big friend group at the academy, and often hosts garden parties on the front lawn of the Gefilte Household. On the weekends, she sneaks off the local training center to practice with the spear. Her parents don’t know about it, but she believes they wouldn’t mind, as it’s for her own good, in case she ever got reaped. She’s also really good with younger kids, especially her siblings, helping them with school from time to time.
Snapper Gefilte (male, 15) (OPEN) is very quiet, keeps to himself, and only has a few people at the academy he talks to. He can usually be found near a nearby lake, using a fishing rod, or playing on a dirty old guitar he found at home. He seems to enjoy the sounds of the insects and wildlife nearby, and sometimes tries to match the tune he’s playing on the guitar with the surrounding noises, making an interesting blend of sound.
Craw Gefilte (male, 14) (OPEN) if very hyperactive and outspoken. He’s often referred to by his parents and older siblings as the “unfiltered one”. You can often catch him goofing off with a bunch of other boys his age, pranking each other and trying to bribe and irritate the merchants in the nearby marketplace. His grades at school aren’t the best, and as of late he’s been forced to stay after hours making up assignments.
Carolina Gefilte (female, 12) (OPEN) is your typical young teenage girl, daddy’s girl, and probably the most sociable person out of all her siblings. She’s willing to talk to anyone, and isn’t afraid to make a fool of herself, and is very curious, sometimes asking the adults in the room questions that are better off left unanswered. She can often be found taking a stroll in the area nearby the family home, or reading a book out in the open
Walter “Waddles” Gefilte (male, 8) (OPEN) is the youngest member of the Gefilte household, who’s not quite reaping age, but has had quite the impact on the family. When he was around one years old, Saltin caught him wobbling around right outside the front door, with no parental figure in sight. After a few hours there was still no one to claim him as their own, so he ended being adopted into the family. They gave him the nickname Waddles because of the way he first entered the household, and hasn’t rejected the name just yet. He’s just your typical 8 year old boy, but sooner or later will establish more to his name then what there already is.
