SPOILER ALERT!!
If you haven't read Mockingjay, do NOT read this post.
I feel kinda left behind, or rather, emptied after reading the Epilogue.
I truly had a weep-a-thon when Finnick died, especially since he was my favourite character, ever since Catching Fire. Even now, a few days after reading Mockingjay, I get all teary-eyed when someone mentions him and Annie, and especially their baby. I was so devastated, but I guess I should have seen his death coming. I just wish it had more of an impact on Katniss, or at least, a more visual, vocal impact. I wanted Katniss to cry with me, but she didn't even blink her eyes... and that just made me more upset. I found that the story behind Finnick was heart-wrenching, even more so with Annie in the picture. To me, they just made a better couple than Katniss/Peeta or Katniss/Gale could ever be. Just my opinion.
People might kill me for child cruelty or something, but I wasn't as horrified when Prim became deceased. Sure, it was a gruesome death, but it was honestly something I could live with. I liked Prim a lot, but she just couldn't match up to the love I had for Finnick. Just my opinion.
Coin. Oh, Coin. I hate you, missy. I never liked you. I'm glad you got what you deserved. There's just something about her that screams "EVILLER THAN SNOW!!!!" My theory behind the whole child-bombing that happened in the Capitol, brutal as it was, was all Coin's little mastermind to mess up Katniss, since she couldn't really kill her anyway. ME, BEING THE NEUROTIC PERSON THAT I AM, I think that Coin knew about Beetee and Gale's plans for some insane traps, and took them, built them for her own uses, and then deployed the 'chutes over the kids. She knew Prim was going to be there, nursing the wounded, and the only way to really kill Katniss was to kill her sister. Just my opinion. Everyone is planning a conspiracy and they're all out to get us. *dies*
Now, the ending, with Gale basically disappearing off the face of the planet under the cover of some "JOB IN DISTRICT 2" and Katniss ending up with Pita... I dunno. I was certainly not happy about Gale just up and leaving like that, but I wasn't too happy with Katniss kinda being all: "Oh. Peeta is here. Gale killed my sister. Peeta still wants to kill me sometimes. Gale isn't here. He's kissing someone else (JEALOUSY HINT HINT)... Peeta c'mere we marry pls." I never liked Peeta, from the moment his name was reaped. I understand that Katniss ending up with Peeta was the better choice, and I respect that... but I just didn't feel like Katniss did it willingly enough. In previous books I really felt her passion for Peeta, but in MJ, I just didn't. I know she's going through some severe shock symptoms, but I still didn't feel very connected to the ending. The part where they make the book about all the people who fell to the Capitol was another tear inducing scene. I finally understood what they meant by sealing the pages with salt water, and that just made it even more horrible.
I'm not saying the book was horrible. No, no. The book was written in a genius manner. It has a very realistic and grim conclusion that will stick with me for a long time. A fantastic ending to a fantastic series, though Catching Fire is by far my favourite of the three.
I also found an amazing "perfect" alternate ending on FF . net.
Truly, I think it's just spectacular. It's sad, it's happy, and it's hopeful. I hope I'm allowed to link to www.fanfiction.net/s/6274173/1/An_End_for_Mockingjay
... FINNICK *cry* Let's hope I get over this soon. It can't be healthy to mourn a fictional character so heavily.
Let's let Baby Odair have a good life.
I'd name him Finn, like in that fanfic Dx
Sorry about the wall o' text.
