KATNISS EVERDEEN: BABY DAYS
Oneshot
Oneshot
It was a dark, dreary night when Katniss was born. The wind seemed to scream in unison with her mother as she gave birth to her. The doctor was muttering comforting words to her as nurses surrounded her, restraining her so that she wouldn't move while he delivered the baby. Her mother screamed on the outside but inside she was weeping with joy. Her firstborn was here! She was going to grow up and live a wonderful life! The only terrible thought on her mind was, Where is her father?!
He had promised that he would be here, no matter what was going on in his silly little "Rebellion" as he called it. He claimed to have started an organization that would make the world a better place for Katniss and her mother. As her mother gave her last pushes the baby girl was free of her. The doctor cradled her extremely gently and showed her to her mother. Katniss didn't move for several seconds, holding her breath and not crying. Her mother was, at first, immensely worried but then Katniss began to cry and she smiled with approval.
Her mother wept, this time with tears of joy, as she looked at her baby girl. Her father rushed into the room, panting. He looked anxious and worried. As he caught his first glimpse of Katniss he smiled and tried to make it closer to her. When he was within arms length of his wife he made a terrible noise that the mother would never forget. All of a sudden he had a deep hole in his head and he crumpled to the floor. He had been shot. His wife yelled out in pain for a doctor but it was too late. He was dead and she knew it.

Katniss rolled around on the floor, sticking her tongue out like a dog as she crawled around the floor. She crawled over to her mother and attempted to say something but only got out, "Daaaaaa." Her mother instantly saw that her daughter was capable of speaking so she, excitedly, got down on the floor with her and tried to help her with the word she thought she was trying to say.
"Dog. Daaaaawg. Dog." Her mother reached out her hand and Katniss grabbed one finger with her entire fist. Katniss looked into her eyes, one finger in her mouth and thought for a couple of moments.
"Dowg?" Katniss was incorrect on the perfect pronunciation but it was good enough for her mother. She smiled from ear to ear and said,
"Good job!" She jumped up from where she was and took her daughter in her arms, kissing her on her forehead. Katniss laughed and rolled around in her arms playfully. As she grew tired of the game she kicked at her mom and she, reluctantly, allowed her to escape from her arms. Her mother couldn't help feeling proud of her. She, however, was brought to sadness when her daughter uttered the word she was trying to say all along.
"Dad."

Katniss's mother was working when one of the best moments of her life happened. She was muttering to herself in a way that suggested frustration and just plain anger mixed with an ounce of concentration. She was working on things that her husband had left behind for her to deal with. As she finished one of the bills and signed it in his name she heard a soft noise. It sounded like, "Oooooooo." She looked up to see Katniss standing on her legs, fully balanced, and taking about 3 steps before tumbling to the ground.
Katniss's mother ran down to her and yelped with excitement. It was hard to be a parent on her own but it was moments like this that made it all the more worth while, even when she was working with stuff she had nothing to do it was happy making. Katniss grinned at her with a wide face and squinted her eyes like a cat. Her hair that she had was tangled and a blue bow was tied into it, making her look all the more precious to gaze upon.
Katniss stood up again, this time held by her mother, and took 4 more steps before tripping on the leg of the chair her mother had been sitting in. She cried out for a minute but was calmed down when her mother gave her a smile that showed her love and her proud attitude that she felt for her daughter. She had always had a way of making things happy no matter what it was she was making happy. She could even make her father's death happy by coming into the world at the same moment.
