In the blink of an eye, everything that Rethia ever loved disappeared, along with modern equipment and things that were most definitely overlooked. Her ears rang, eyesight blurry, her hand frantically playing with the back of her head, searching for anything that might’ve seriously hurt her. It was a result of falling after her house had disappeared. She had no explanation. There was nothing behind it, from what she remembered, and now, it seemed, she was alone. The only person on the face of the Earth.
And then she heard a scream.
An ear splitting scream, one that made your fists clench together and force your teeth on one another. Her blurry vision was quickly repaired after her hands had found her glasses. It seemed to be the only thing that hadn’t disappeared that was of any use. With her vision once more, she scanned her surroundings, a square of very damp and dusty grassless dirt that was left after the disappearance of her house. Towering trees leant over her, captivating her and squeezing her tightly. She was a ragdoll that was being thrown around by nature. No cars, no houses, no garages, nothing. The only thing left were roads, useless roads that were removed of the paint, causing rectangular holes in it, from where the painted areas had disappeared.
She was in utter shock, she was alone. Or so she felt. She couldn’t be alone, though, for someone else had screamed. Being left in shock left her emotionless, it seemed, and for a while, she sat in an upright position, her legs stretched out to their full potential, burning from the impact of the fall. Her face was a blank, empty void of nothing. What had just happened? One second, she was blow drying her hair, and the next, she was falling to the ground, landing on her knee and losing her glasses. Her sister had disappeared, her mother had disappeared, her dog had disappeared, and so had everything else.
A slight breeze blew, and it was as if she was splashed in the face with cold water after sleeping a year. A quick gasp escaped her small mouth, and then the tears began to fall. They fell like water over a waterfall, rain in a monsoon, bowling balls off of skyscrapers. She sobbed uncontrollably, her hands digging at the dirt around her, the sediments digging deep into her fingernails. “Mom? Ruthia? Uh,” Sob. “Gunner? Anyone! Any.. thing?” She asked herself, silently knowing that no one would answer, but wishing that they would.
Rethia’s head quickly darted off towards her left as she saw a child running away from a knife-bearing man.
