Anthem - Day 4

Without warning, the sky above you- long since dark with the passing of the sun, making the Arena even eerier than before- bursts into sound and colour. The sound of the Panem’s anthem fills the air, alerting you to look up and see the seal of the Capitol appear, so bright it overrides the stars. The Anthem continues to play until completion of every nauseating note. You could swear they’re trying to mock you- and in truth, they probably are.
The song finally fades finishes, and the seal is replaced by the faces of the dead tributes:
Theodore Croggstad, District Two
Johnathan Wrusche, District Seven
Quick addition reveals that fifteen tributes have already died, leaving nine in the Arena to compete for victory. If you wish to survive, you still have to ensure the deaths of eight others.
The seal fades, returning the sky to the dominion of the stars and moon and whatever strange creates fly through the air of an Arena. You’ve all been left to your own devices once more.
The darkness only lasts a brief period, however, before the Arena lights up again- this time from the ground up. Every shoe that fell on Day Three, from the most delicate-looking slipper to the threatening metal-edged skates, simultaneously bursts into flame. The fire touches nothing but the shoes, making it look like just an illusion, but by the time it’s done the once-proud weapons are nothing but piles of ash, melted plastic, and scorched rubber. The reign of the shoes is over.
Maybe.
The fire goes out after some time, but the Arena still moves. It’s something beyond the sounds of mutts rustling in the night, too- occasionally a shadow passes by that sends a chill down your spine and makes you glance nervously at your weapon. Maybe you even see one close up, and jump to your defence. Such caution, however, though neither unprecedented nor unwise, is unnecessary.
The scarecrows from the Grain Field are floating somewhere away from their natural habitat, true- but wherever it is, they’re not coming after you.
Yet.
Congratulations on surviving Day Three, Tributes.
