Every now and then I feel the need to remind people that illegal downloading is not the only option for those of you who are wealthy enough to be sitting at a computer, but too poor to afford the 1.29 dollars or 99 cents iTunes charges for a song.
That comment is meant to acknowledge that some people do have financial issues, but for those of you who can afford it but choose not to buy your music, shame on you. I blame you for the death of Tower Records and the rise of Disney music.
Anyways, there are a few perfectly legal choices if you find yourself in a predicament or just want some cool tunes, maann!
--iTunes free downloads
I'll admit iTunes is getting "stingier" with their free music, but they still offer a few songs/videos etc for free. Scroll to the bottom of your iTunes or google it if you want to download the weekly music.
--Music Mondays
I love Urban Outfitters so much, they offer five free songs a week. Google music mondays and you'll find the link to this page. There are expiration dates on these songs, but unlike iTunes they don't disappear after a week - you can get songs for awhile and the expiration date is always made clear. I just downloaded the past three weeks of Music Mondays, and I'm not even finished!
--Lstn
If you went to that link I provided, you'll notice there are several sublinks, one of them is the "lstn" link which offers 20+ songs every now and then. I just downloaded 49 songs (the last two lstn playlists) that have yet to expire. I suggest you check this page every now and then.
--Whatever else links on that page
Yeh. Makes sense, right?
--Spin magazinge
Google 'Spin free playlist MONTH, YEAR' and a link will show up taking you to the iTunes Spin music magazine playlist of the month. Right now October and November are downloadable, I'm not sure about September.
--Starbucks weekly finds
If you happen upon a Starbucks, walk in and ask about/check for the free music download codes, once a week or sometimes twice a week they'll have cards with codes for free music. I haven't seen any for awhile, but its worth a try.
Many magazines, music radio stations, NPR..., businesses, artists all offer free, legal music. Google 'free legal music' and you're sure to find results. Narrow it down by typing indie music, or dubstep, or jazz. I've encountered several sites for those three genres, and I happen to be a fan of them so yeh
--Titus Jones
Remixed music, free! titusjones.com/
--Youtube
If you're on a computer with sound and nobody grouchy around, youtube your favorite song and there are sure to be results
--Parents/Friends CDs
If you can't afford a CD, ask your friends to chip in. A bunch of you pay one dollar for a hard-copy CD, then download it onto your iTunes by sticking it in your computer. Its not free, but it is cheap. Going through relatives/friends CD collections is always a great way toillegally technicallyget musicwithout getting caught and charged a huge fine.Personally I favor hardcopy CDs over iTunes albums any day.
There you go! If any of you have free, legal music finds post a link or description on this thread.
