Anani PetrosAnani helped the limping boy across what seemed like an endless world of trees. Heavy breaths were shared between the two as they slowly made their way towards the limited cover of the dead trees. Once they trudged far enough that the field of grain was no longer visible, Anani gave the boy a pat on his back before falling onto his knees with a sigh of relief, pleasure and confusion. Whatever the boy was doing, Anani ignored it and continued to look through the sky under the scare protection of the dead trees.
What... what happened back there? I remember just blanking out and waking up to just... chaos... Think... I took a swing at the mutt flying towards me... then nothing... Is someone looking over me? How did I live?
Anani took his eyes away from the emotionless sky and peered back towards the limping boy.
Why did he save me? Haven't I decided that I would only rely on myself from now on? But no... the boy saved me... when that girl suddenly lunged out at me, he took my side...
With a kick of disgruntled confusion, he turned back to the strange boy and took out a jug of water and plopped in one of the few remaining iodine tablets. With a nod of assurance, he handed the jug of purified water to the boy.
After the boy took the jug of water, Anani started to take care of his own wounds. Looking back at the searing, almost rotting scar on his left bicep, he gave a cringe as he applied fresh stitches to it using one of his needle and threads. After that, he wound several of his open wounds with the bandage he had to prevent any further infection. He also applied some of the medicinal herbs he had in his backpack to several of the more minor wounds he had acquired over the past week.
After finishing this with lots of teeth grinding and groans of pain, Anani sat back down as he stared at the boy. As he tried to remember information about the boy from the training sessions, Anani displayed a scowl as he drew a blank. With a sudden epiphany, he remembered that the guy was adept with the bow and arrows. Anani rummaged through his bag and pulled out the bow and arrows he had picked up at the Bloodbath. Anani pushed the offering towards the boy as he gave another silent nod of approval. And as the silence lingered on, Anani finally broke it.
So... Let's start with the basics. Err.. forgive me forgetting, but what's your name again?... and before we continue, I want to know why you helped me back there... Don't take it the wrong way, it's just that... I'm thankful.
With a smile that hadn't appeared for a couple days, Anani felt safe once more within the presence of another traveling companion.
