Kayla is as skinny as a stick with very few curves to be seen, teetering on the edge of fairly healthy and a bit too skinny. From first glance, you would have no idea that she is very physically fit, and would not learn it until she wears more revealing clothing. The rest of her family is healthily sized, but she takes smaller portions to let the younger members of the family eat more as they grow. In her opinion, she has no more growing to do. She has very bright blonde hair from being outside and usually in the sun for most, if not all of the day, and with that comes her array of freckles splattered all over her body, none of them clumped, almost as if they'd been arranged with an equal distance from each other, with the least noticeable freckles on her cheeks. This also means she does not tan well, and while not necessarily pale, she is not tan, and has no desire to become so. Kayla is the average height for a sixteen year old in District 9, and pays no attention to such things anyway, so she doesn't care. She has big, sparkling green eyes that she spends an exceptional amount of time narrowing in suspicion. She has a cute button nose lightly dotted with freckles. Some could argue that she is rather attractive, but she wouldn't.

She is generally not smiling, as she is far too busy concentrating on her game and providing for her family. Kayla can often be seen biting down on the side of her lip with one of her front teeth, and looking around instinctively for both enemies and potential game. She does nothing with her arms and hands (aside from shooting bows and arrows) but cross them and place them skeptically on her hips. She has good posture, standing as straight as she can, and almost never looks to her feet.

Kayla couldn't care less about what she wore. Her many sisters have to persuade her to dress at least well, or she'd go out in rags, that's how little she cares. Other's perception of her is of little concern to her unless this person is obviously one to impress, such as those from the Capitol, and those she could potentially trade with. She secretly holds a soft spot for the clothing her sisters put on her, but couldn't care less if she gets mud on them or dirties them. She absolutely NEVER wears makeup. Though clean and dirt-free in the morning when her sisters insist on her washing, she immediately dirties herself up again, sometimes on purpose. Her sisters so believe she is very pretty, but she doesn't. And doesn't care.

Personality:

Kayla is a very skeptical girl. She generally has to witness something in order to assume it to be true. There are few exceptions to this trait of hers, the main cause of exceptions being when the person informing her of what they assume to be the truth has proven to be trustworthy. When someone's trustworthiness is proven to Kayla, then she is a very, very loyal girl and will use all of the resourcefulness in her to aid that person.

What most people don't expect out of Kayla is her unwillingness to die for people she doesn't love. She knows her family wouldn't make it without her, and she bears that in mind when hunting. She is always cautious with everything she does, knowing she is her family's only hope of survival. As such, she is very driven to succeed with everything she does.

Kayla despises the Hunger Games, and would hate to be a tribute. With the risk of death so high, it would just be too risky, even though all responsibility for her family's complete survival would be lifted off of her shoulders, she is not a giant risk taker. She would like to think of herself as a daredevil, but unless she's sure something is mostly safe, and survival odds are in her favor, she won't follow through unless she has made a promise.

Kayla may seem rough to some, and it takes a little bit of time to get on her good side. Many are actually scared of her, because of her tough demeanor and look. She is often the subject of gossip, although as for many good things as bad. The only public recognition that phases her is gossip among the guys, about her. One of Kayla's mom's top priorities for her is finding her a husband, and she knows it would break her heart if her eldest daughter lived life unmarried.

History:

Kayla is the eldest in a family of 13 children, with nine sisters and four brothers. This is only a bit higher than the highest you generally see in her area of District 9, although she was often teased about it in school. She used to have an older brother, but he was killed by an upset bear while out on a hunting trip with her dad. Her dad tried to save her brother, but to no avail. After he was killed, her father climbed up into a tree and waited it out, and the bear eventually left. Kayla's father, Horace Copeland, had one leg amputated, and the family could not afford anything but basic treatment. Kayla was nine, and her brother died when he was thirteen. Her father can no longer walk sufficiently and Kayla must do all of the hunting and gathering of plants. The oldest brother is six, and could not possibly hunt yet. Kayla had a very ordinary childhood and a standard education, and did not take on hunting responsibility until it was confirmed that her dad would never walk properly again, when the was twelve.

Kayla is closest to her sister Emmalina, who is thirteen, and could be her twin. Emmy does her best to help Kayla, but at the end of the day, Kayla is the top provider for the family. She brings home food, and without food, Kayla's mom would have to find a higher paying job to buy all of the family's food.

The Copelands live on an average sized ranch house with a couple of acres of land, with woods both on their property and nearby. She hunts on both. Kayla shares a room with Emmy and three of her other sisters, Rosa, Paprika, and Emerald, aged 11, 12, and 14. The house is fairly plain, and average for the area. They might be considered lucky, while the only reason they have the house is because their cousin many years back lived in it, but he died in the Hunger Games, so they inherited it.

Kayla is very hesitant in relationships, and she never tells her mom about crushes until it is confirmed they do, indeed, like each other. She has no crushes at the time and thinks they are very wasteful if they won't be going anywhere. She's only been in one relationship, which quickly ended.
