Okay, there are two things that I absolutely HATE. Now one of them is not as serious as the other one, and I don't think it happens all that much, but I still hate it.
Double Block-quotingYes, folks. I hate double block-quoting. It's what I call cheating. It's not so much the way it looks as the intention you have for doing it. You double blockquote because you want your post to look longer and more impressive. This shouldn't be about length it should be about writing quality. Now, there is another thing I hate more than double block-quoting.
Triple Block-quoting
(Mind you, this post has been triple block quoted)
Now, on to the more serious pet peeve I've got. It's the swearing. I've been noticing lately that swears have been used more and more often in posts. When they're not necessary. so then, when are they necessary?
They are necessary when your character is in high tension and feeling cart loads of horrid emotion. Not when your character is mildly annoyed at something. Example:
What an idiot, I thought angrily. Fuck, I've never been misunderstood like that.
Is the character in a life threatening situation? No. Is the character really really really angry? No. The character is merely highly annoyed. Is the character very passionate about something? No. As I said they are merely highly annoyed. Using swear words to often takes away from the meaning of them. If you want to gather the greatest affect from them, use them very little and only maybe once in a very powerful passage about character's death, or the character getting revenge for some death, etc.
