Age: 14
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 2
Appearance:
Amethyst was named for the color of her big double-lidded eyes--a striking and surprising brilliant violet that is completely natural. The only flaw related to her eyes is one that's considered beautiful by some--silver specks that shimmer when she's extremely happy or extremely outraged. Few know this, but she also has a slight night-blindness. Her hair is a glossy black curtain that she keeps short, cut so it frames her face and ends at her chin. She has high cheekbones and small teeth that look like baby teeth, but they're really not.
Despite her large appetite and her family's new ability to satisfy it--she eats more than her brother at times, Amethyst is really petite for her age--she's small, slender, and has been mistaken for a ten year-old.
Personality:
Amethyst loves to work with children, and she loves to help people, in general, too. She's often found in the nursery or hospital, tending patients.[/blockquote]
She works hard at everything she attempts--even if she may not like it--just to prove she can do it as well as any bigger person. She isn't exactly sensitive about her size--she has much more to make up for what she lacks in size, like brains and strength and talent, for example. This striving for the best has led her to prepare well for the Games, if she ever has to participate. She detests the idea, perhaps even more than her brother does, but she just grits her teeth and builds muscle just like her peers do. Amethyst has a secret talent--no one knows, not even her parents, except her brother, whom she calls Jon. On top of that, she's a fast runner, working on her endurance. If given the chance, she may prove to be a brilliant climber, too.
Amethyst fights on the side of the underdog, and there are a handful of movies she can last the whole way through without shedding tears--of happiness or sadness, sometimes both. She is also the type of person people either really like or really dislike. She has many friends, but time has also made her quite a few enemies--mainly because she's so good at everything.
One thing she knows but rarely speaks of aloud is her inability to handle needles. She knows she'll have to deal with it someday, but the thought of piercing skin with a needle terrifies her. She's more scared of administering a shot than receiving the shot. Not even Jon knows of this.
History:
Amethyst lives at home with his family. Her parents are quite important and acknowledged in the District; this connection has provided Amethyst with a brilliant education and internship at the hospital, allowing special privileges others don't get. Her father is a professor in the higher levels of education. Her mother teaches younger children; she specializes more in medicines found in herbs and other natural resources. Amy learned much from her mother, and she is able to heal even if she's stranded in the woods, provided the woods are stocked with the herbs needed; if the forest is artificial, though, then Amy'll have to "wing it".
Her parents are out for most of the day; the only other person in the house with her is usually Jon, her twin brother. Jon and Amy are very different, but they share a link not many fraternal twins share. When Amy took up healing those who need help, Jon chose to look more into developing better medication for his sister's use and increasing the efficiency of producing them. Though both are still young interns, it is recognized throughout the District by those that know the twins that the two have serious potential.
Amy strongly dislikes the Games, and those that know her know it. She knows that if her name was ever drawn from the pile of names, she'd probably be the sole female of the age range in the District to despise the "opportunity".
Her strong dislike for the Games does not prevent her from watching them--she likes to mock the lack of imagination the Capitol has in planning the Arenas. She also likes to take part in cheering on her peers from District 2, mainly because hollering at the TV wouldn't be tolerated otherwise.
Amy was born in District 2. Her family is quite well-off--the high position of her father and the need of the District for her mother provide for the little family of four quite well. In fact, there are times when there are excesses and the Meridians have enough to share with their neighbors.
Amy is already working as an unofficial intern with the people and at the place she wants to work when she grows up. While other girls are gossiping and worrying about their next meal, Amy is working with the orphans, teaching the toddlers, or helping with the patients (that don't require shots) in the hospital-wellfare building close to her home. It's where she goes before school and where she returns after school. In fact, she probably sees her patients more than she sees her parents.
