Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 1
Appearance:
Ever since her hair had begun growing, Nyrah has recieved scores of compliments on it. Her light brown locks that turns auburn under the sun used to be something nearly everyone appreciated. It falls a few inches beneath her shoulders, curls at the ends, and if it is pulled back with a hair band, it's in a simple pony tail. Her hair, everyone knew, was the best part about her.
Unfortunately, her eyes were another story.
The doctors in her District claimed it as a genetic problem, or an issue that had occured during her developement as a baby. But many still can't figure out the real reason why one of Nyrah's eyes--the left one--is blue, and the other is green. Or why the shape of one eye is completely different from the shape of the other's. Instead of being the perfect people her parents are, both appearance and character-wise, Nyrah is an outcast. She grows her banes to block out her left eye, hiding her shame from view.
Despite all of that though, Nyrah is built like a fighter. She's muscular, but tall enough to be considered lean. Because of her District's ample supply of food, she isn't particularly skinny either. Overall, Nyrah is fit and healthy, and with her flawless skin, her appearance should be perfect.
Personality:
Nyrah is, in short, an angst-ridden, manipulative teenager.
Once upon a time, she used to be just like her mother--social, enthusiastic, and bright. But as she continued to grow, her eyes became stranger and out of proportion with her body. And considering how her parents are harsh on the family "image", the pressure was enough to bring out the darker side of Nyrah's character. And it is this dark side we often see today.
Nyrah is very serious, and very manipulative. She is an excellent actress, but in all the wrong ways. Her personality is unstable because of her "dark" attitude, and therefore, she's often confusing others by switching back and forth from dark to bright. A serious, meaningful insult from her mouth could be turned into a light joke in a matter of seconds. All it takes is for Nyrah to say, "Just kidding!" with a big smile, like everything was okay. Like everyone should believe her.
Along with her serious attitude comes with a knack of complete and utter indifference. Nyrah takes pride in knowing that she acts like she doesn't care, when in turn, she really does care. She also takes pride in thinking that she can decieve other people into believing she doesn't care--not for her appearance, or for anything else. In her life, being happy is for a show, and being serious isn't. But being serious also comes with a truth that, if Nyrah continues her manipulative behavior, no one will know.
History:
When Celeste Bartrone trained to become a Career, she knew and hoped her children would become one as well. When Damien Bartrone trained to become a Career, he also wanted his sons and daughters to be involved. So when Celeste gave birth to Janette, the Golden Child, the One Who Succeeds, they were both ecstatic. They were both sure that their next daughter would just be like her older sister.
However, Nyrah is different.
She had once wanted to impress her parents and live up to the family name. She had once wanted to surpass her older sister and become the best fighter in her ancestral history. Her parents pressured her, pushed her toward the goal they thought was for her--but in actuality was for them. When this pressure became too much, when Nyrah realized she'll never be able to impress any of them, she just gave up.
Gave up. The shock from her failure--an element of emotion that a Bartrone rarely faced--wasn't anything too significant. Nyrah shrugged it off with her own, well-practiced manipulative skills, and pushed ahead with other meaningless goal in mind. It wasn't until the age of fourteen that she finally, finally realized that she wasn't just different by strength and family standards. She was different in something else.
Her eyes. They hadn't been as different and strange fourteen years ago, but now they were definitely changing along with the rest of her body. The green one on her right grew taller, the blue one on her left wider. Add that with the perfect expectations from both her parents and sister, and Nyrah knows she's becoming more than a failure now. The people on the streets act like they don't see her flaws or her differences. Two years later, and Nyrah still knows they're lying. But two years later, Nyrah is also the one lying. Lying and acting like everything is fine.
