Anthem - Day 9

Without warning, the sky above you- long since dark with the passing of the sun, making the Arena even eerier than before- bursts into sound and colour. The sound of the Panem’s anthem fills the air, alerting you to look up and see the seal of the Capitol appear, so bright it overrides the stars. The Anthem continues to play until completion of every nauseating note. You could swear they’re trying to mock you- and in truth, they probably are.

The song finally fades finishes, and the seal is replaced by the faces of the dead tributes:

Joshua Rowan, District Nine

Quick addition reveals that twenty-two tributes have already died, leaving two in the Arena to compete for victory. If you wish to survive, you only have to ensure the death of one other. You're nearly there.

The night is silent, the temperature steadily dropping. The scarecrows still stand vigil, blocking off the eastern half of the arena so that it is completely inaccessible to the two remaining tributes. You are filled with a foreboding sense of dread; the Gamemakers will not leave you in peace for much longer. Somehow, they will drive you and your final opponent together, while the rest of the nation prepares for what could be the most entertaining showdown in history.

In the early hours of the morning your eyes snap open; unsure at first of what awakened you, you stare around for a bit, until you spot the unmistakable orange glow on the horizon. A second later, a smell reaches your nose. You know that smell. Smoke. Somewhere in the arena, a wildfire has started, and it rages steadily towards you.

You figure you can outrun it; judging by its distance from you, it doesn't seem to be a particularly fast moving blaze. But its intended purpose is all to clear; you and the other remaining tribute will be driven to the last safe area, the one place the flames won't reach, so that the final fight to the death could happen with little interference. As you prepare to run, you realize this will be your last day in the arena, dead or alive. You're sure of it.

The location of the final battle will be the Pillars.
Tributes who were not already headed there will take no damage from the flames.
