Ocean Jones
a million years.
spent without ears.
for a single moment.
death.
beep. beep. beep.
A beeping emitted from a small alarm hidden inside the headboard of a certain bed that was being slept on. Ocean Jones could not hear this sound, for the ears that she had were useless, no sound making it's ways into them. Ocean slept, slept for what seemed like eternity, and when a loud, thunderous boom, echoed through room, Ocean didn't hear that, either. Polo, a man dressed in white with light pink accents, somehow managed to make his way into her living quarters, nudging her shoulder's a few times. There was no sense in saying anything, for nothing would be heard, but for some reason, he seemed to think that knocking on the door before coming in would be.
Ocean eventually slipped a peak out of her closed eye streak, groaning and yawning as the day for her dawned. As she sat up, she completely ignored the words of Mr. Polo, fpr the fact that she wasn't looking at him, and she wasn't too sure of what he was saying. The Capitol accent was something hard to read, and now that she'd been around for what seemed much longer than what it actually was, it got no easier. She'd thought of what was happening today, and quickly came to the conclusion of the first day of Training.
She looked at Polo for clarification. "Training, right?" He simply nodded and motioned towards her closet full of Capitol supplied clothes. She was quite fond of this closet, as it was filled with casual clothes, and not ones that were either fancied up for a special televised event, or to the point where the smell emitted off of it was too strong to bear. The girl, after watching Polo make his way out of the room, which surprised even Ocean, for the speed he exited caused a trail of wind behind him to sweep over her, slipped on a grey t-shirt, a black pair of sweat pants with a very soft lining, and a pair of slip ons.
Her hair was pulled back in a black ribbon, leaving her ears, the ones that might as well not be there, revealed. As Ocean sat down for breakfast, the smells that filled her nose were just about as pleasing as the smells of the foods at home were. And for once, just for a teeny moment, she was happy. After letting out a small smile, she quickly turned back to the straight face she normally carried with her, she took a steaming roll, covered with a layer of melted butter sesame seeds.
After making her way down the monstrous trip to the Training Center, Ocean was rewarded with a name tag that had both her name and her District on it. She observed the other Tributes that were already slinging blades around, trying as hard as they to intimidate, or at least strike some fear into the others. In all reality, Ocean thought that no matter who it was, if a blade was coming at them, they'd be scared, and there'd be no doubting it either.
She made her way to where no one was, a place where weird contraptions stood with handles, a very shower-button-like board at one end, elevated without support, and a rough textured map. The station leader began spilling words out to her, obviously intrigued that someone had made their way to their station. Ocean, even through the Capitol accent and distractions of their appearance made out the name "Sindy". She wore yellow hair and cat-like pupils, and Ocean couldn't help but to remember a District cat, of sorts, that everyone had different names for. For Ocean, it's name was Wave, corresponding with her own name.
The woman seemingly realized that Ocean was deaf, right after she'd motioned to her ears and how she wasn't listening. Ocean, who still thought of the cat, now had a hand in front of her face, forming the shape of a certain two fingers snapping. She snapped back into realization of what was happening, and said as loud as she could, "I salute!" Sindy, a.k.a, the girl known with the wrong name (at least to Ocean), widened her eyes and furrowed her brows at the same time. The look was rather scary, as the slits that were Sindy's pupils sent a shiver up her spine.
"Just teach me how to work this th-" Sindy had already pulled her to the machine, motioning for her to get on. As Ocean stepped on, the amount of fear she had that the machine would shock her was lowered dramatically, as all she felt was a feeling of slight elevation. Sindy pressed the number '1', and the mat she stood on began to move. Ocean's first reaction was to jump off, and when she did, she saw Sindy give a slight chuckle into her her palms and held up her index finger. After making her way back to Ocean after leaving towards a small, metal filing cabinet that was clamped to the floor, she came back to Ocean with a clipboard and a pen, where she furiously wrote away.
She handed the clipboard to Ocean, and she read aloud. "This is called a tree...ad....mill.. It's s-s-supposed to help you get streh-ng-uhth for running and walking. It can help you run faster and longer." Some of the words left Ocean unable to pronounce, hence the smiling and occasional laugh that would escape Sindy. She simply nodded to Ocean and told her to get back on.
Ocean had noticed the machine called a Treedmeel had stopped, and assumed it was something that happened when it wasn't used. Ocean once more stepped on, and by herself, she pressed the '1' button.
She began to walk.
And walk.
And walk.
for clarification- Sindy is the instructor for the Station, and Polo is the NPC Escort.
