Appearance:

Duke might be attractive teenage boy if he didn't look like a miniature adult. Because of how he acts, his looks have deteriorated. For every attractive trait he has, it's usually balanced out by an unattractive one: His deep brown hair which curls up halfway down his neck, and right at his eyebrows is unkempt and rarely cut. His beautiful deep blue eyes house light bags under them from lack of sleep.

When Duke is not working in the factory he is at home tinkering and studying, causing him to rarely see the sun, making him pale. Because Duke works and studies, he misses meals frequently making him rather thin. He stands at about 5 ft and 10 in, with size 9 1/2 feet and his body doesn't seem to be growing much more anytime soon.

Duke's smile is the only attractive thing he has that isn't followed by a bad trait: it simply is. When he smiles he shows his perfectly straight and white teeth, and his small dimples.

Personality:

Duke is a textbook Type A personality type: Impatient, with a short fuse. If Duke does not know the person, he will be very blunt with them and wont beat around the bush. However, if he does know and care for them, he will try his best to spare their feelings. He is also a slight perfectionist with OCD, causing him to take the lead in school projects and be the slave driver of his small group of friends.

He works very hard in both work and school, spending most of his time studying or tinkering with items he took from the factory, and losing much sleep because of it.

At first glance, it is not hard to pin Duke: A boy who, by his own choice, grew up too fast, and would be destined to live out the rest of his life working until death. But the rare few who get to know him find him to be fun to be around; Often lighting up the mood with his quick wit and sarcastic form of humor.

History:

Duke was born under Leonard Heyyre and Samantha Berns. They met in the factory, his father won over her mother with his knowledge on machines, and got married after a few months of dating. Or so they tell him.

Having no other children, Duke's parents were overbearing and made him believe that intelligence was the most important thing in life. Unfortunately, Duke took that to heart and began studying every moment of every day. Because of his lack of immaturity, Duke was always bullied and mocked in school. When Duke tried to seek help, his Parents simply told him the classic parent line "They'll be working for you one day." When Duke turned 12 asked his parents to get him a job in the factory, and thanks to his grade he received that job. This is when he started to turn into the person he is today. While Duke worked, he used the already brilliant inventions as a base for inventions of his own. Of course, these were just childish inventions, but as time would pass his inventions would get better.

When Duke turned 13 he was assigned to be a tutor to Johnathan, the one classmate that set out to constantly make Duke's life miserable ever since Elementary School. As they worked, Johnathan began to see a different side of Duke, and vice versa, and they quickly became friends.

As Duke grew up, he developed a small group of friends: Johnathan, his best friend. Sarah, Johnathan's girlfriend, and Logain, a 20 year old who he works with.

Now, at 15 Duke's inventions look like they might actually have some promise in the future, if he didn't get killed in the Hunger Games.
